Obituary of Bruce Willett

WILLETT, Bruce John (“Sonny”) April 22, 1949 - June 19, 2022 Passed away peacefully at Berkshire Long-term Care Home on June 19, 2022. Loving son of Marjorie Willett. Dear brother of Arlene (Patrick) Goggins and brother-in-law to Janice Sylvester. Predeceased by his dear wife Cathy (Rumak) (2011); his father John (Jack) Willett (2005) and his brother-in-law John Riggs (1994). Bruce was a fun-loving and proud uncle to Nicole (Michael) McGowan of Oakville, Allison (Sameer) Sohanlal of Toronto, Jonathan Riggs of Calgary, Jeff (Britney) Sylvester of Etobicoke, and Megan (Robert) Pitman. He was the step-uncle to Ian (Adrienne) Goggins of Toronto, and Dr. Colin (Amalia) Goggins of Tempe, Arizona. Great-uncle to Liam and Elise McGowan, Arya Sohanlal, Jack Riggs, Brooklyn Sylvester, and Charlotte, Kieran, Amalia, Simon, and Sofia Goggins. Throughout his life, Bruce was an avid fan of all sports. He especially loved the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Detroit Tigers and Lions. He was a career salesman, loved talking to people and always had a few good stories of his own. In retirement, his favourite pastime was fishing on the Detroit River, always looking to catch the “big one”. The family would like to thank the staffs at Devonshire Retirement Residence and Berkshire LTC for the care and compassion shown to Bruce over the last few years. Thank you also to Bruce’s long-time friend Greig Zimmerman for spending time with Bruce during his final days. A private family service will be held, and cremation has been entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL (South) 3048 Dougall Ave, 519-253-7234. If so desired, donations may be made in Bruce’s memory to The Juvenile Diabetes Association. Bruce was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 14, but he never let diabetes stop him from living his life on his own terms.
