Obituary of Byron William Flieger

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Byron William “Barney” Flieger, 66, announce his passing. Barney passed away suddenly January 26, 2021 in the Windsor, Ontario home he shared with his loving wife, Sandra Louise Flieger (nee Harnett). Born in Wolfville, N.S., to Marie “Babe” Flieger and Robert Archer Flieger, Barney spent most of his life in Windsor with his wife and two children, Jonathan R. G. Flieger (Kathryn Carter) and Jessica E.M. Ebare (Jordan Ebare). Barney was an incredible man who loved his T-birds, travelling with his wife, working around the property, and playing with his grandchildren Kody and Grayson Ebare. He volunteered regularly as a Steward for Belle River United Church and was always ready to lend a hand to a friend in need. He was incredibly proud of his children and never let a day go by without letting them know how much he loved them. A gentle giant with an even bigger heart; everyone who spoke with Barney left with a smile and a story. He is survived by his sisters Cheryl and Heather Flieger of Calgary and is predeceased by his brothers Robert and Gary Flieger of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He will be missed by his many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and close friends. The Flieger family would like to thank Windsor-Essex EMS and dispatch, the fire department and the ER team at Windsor Regional Hospital. A celebration of life and interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Barney’s name to the Canadian Diabetes Association and Belle River United Church.
