We remember Barney for his incredible character. He could make us laugh as well as be serious for the moment. I recall Barney as a man who stood up for us all, particular in a moment of need. Following training we for the most part traveled to different part of the country. I hadn't seen Barney since training, but I assure you I would think of him often. He possessed strong character, great sense of humor and was a true team player. He was a fine man and great friend to many. My sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace, I as others will think of you often. Ralph Carriere 30788 troop 14 73/74

My sincere condolences. I have nothing but fond memories of Barney. He could easily have been an intimidating figure (especially for an 8-year-old) but he was always kind and welcoming.

With tremendous sadness, I extend my condolences to the family of Barney at this time of incredible loss. He was a dependable neighbour, avid conversationalist, supportive parent and an extremely proud Dad as he would flag me down to beamingly update me on Jon and/or Jess. I hope that his family finds solace in the comfort of each other as they process their grief in such a trying time. Scott Pohanka

Whether forcing me to have dozens of ice cream sandwiches because I said I liked them once, or driving us to concerts, Barney cared so much about his kids and their friends, and had a heart of gold. He was such a great and positive influence on my life. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten!

First met Barney when his daughter attended Lakeview Montessori School. That led to his son becoming friends with my son. We enjoyed some happy times together as the children grew. We moved away from Tecumseh but still kept in touch. Please know that our family is thinking of you at this difficult time.

Sandra, Jonathon, Jessica and families, Mary and I offer our deepest condolences. May your memories offer you some degree of comfort. We wish we could be with you. We went through our family albums last night, and Barney was prominently featured. We paused and looked at each of his pictures. However, it wasn’t only pictures we were looking at, but great memories. Whenever Barney walked into a room, with his great smile, which went from his mouth to his eyes, you immediately wanted to spend time with him and chat with him, because you knew he would make you feel good.......Barney made lots of people feel good. However, I also remember Barney speaking at my sister’s funeral. Gone were the smiles and squinted eyes, replaced with the demeanour of one who was sincere, sad and deeply touched by the occasion. His eulogy provided a sobering period of reflection for all those present. Heaven, get ready for an uplifting experience, the Big Guy is coming.

The young Barney was a bean pole, with what we thought to be Hollow legs, as he could scoff down six hotdogs easy! Often called "Jethro" for the gargantuan bowls of cereal or Campbell's Scotch Broth (before they changed their recipe), and he loved to chug Tomato Juice! Young entrepreneur, with the mini golf course across from 43 Stewart, lawn mowing clientele, greeting card sales, a stint at Shur-Gain and Save Easy. He took a ribbing being called "Mr. Hainey" of Green Acres, for his sales ventures. Ah, the memories will be triggered by this and that, and will continue to evoke the gasp or realizing he's gone, but with confidence it is to Greener Pastures.

Sandra,
My family and I live down the street from you. I just recently had a baby but while I was pregnant this summer I would go for daily walks and almost every day I would talk to Barney. He would speak so highly of you and your 2 children (their accomplishments) and grandkids. He would often talk to my daughter about the latest cartoons (paw patrol), as your grandchildren were around the same age. He would remind her that Chase was his favourite because he was a police officer like him. He told me stories of his days on the force, in remote regions etc. And how many of the issues then mimicked the issues of today. He was such a kind man. I was so sad to read of his passing. Please accept my deepest sympathies. You and your family will be in our prayers.

Sandy, Jessica & Jonathan, we are so very sorry for your great loss. I only met Barney a few years ago but have long heard the stories from my Dad (Fred McCully) of the amazing adventures they had together while policing in the North. After meeting Barney I quickly realized why my Dad thought so much of him. He was such a kind man of faith, a loyal friend, a great story-teller, and all-around amazing guy. After my Dad passed away, Barney came to NB to be with our family during our grief and to be there for the visitation. It meant so much to our family to have him there and demonstrated once again what an incredible friend he was to my Dad (& Mom). Our hearts break with yours. We will keep you in our prayers. Laura (McCully) Sanford (& the rest of the McCully family).
