Sending the entire Marier and extended families prayers for strength and peaceful hearts as you navigate this difficult time. Charles was always, "Mr. Marier" and school-like father to me, and part of a treasured year in my life. He was my grade 8 teacher at St.Peter school- perhaps our class made for some good conversations at the dinner table. He was always a kind soul and dedicated teacher. I remember him talking fondly of his family especially his children. My last encounter and memory I have of Charles was during a school mass at Most Precious Blood, he sat behind me in the pews. We shook hands to offer the sign of peace- perhaps not really recognizing me. Now, Mr. Marier, may your soul rest in the Divine peace that you so devoutly believed in. Blessings to you in heaven. Your former grade 8 student- Sandra Kardum (Decker)

My condolences to Cindy, Christa, Che-Lyn and Cherisse on the passing of your husband and father. We have lots of fond memories of Uncle Charlie who was a good family friend. He was always there to help my dad Ron or my mom Sharon especially after the passing of my dad. We always enjoyed hearing the story of him and my dad taking a partial wall down in his house one late evening and how open it made his and Cindy’s house look:) We recently enjoyed a dinner out together with him and Cindy where we shared several funny memories of the past. We will miss his sense of humour and our talks that we were able to share at various times throughout the year. We will keep your family in my prayers and see you soon, Cary, Derek and families

Fond Memories of My Friend Charlie I can’t remember exactly when Charlie and I first met and became friends. The connection may have been through our mutual involvement in a youth group called YCS. In those early years we shared an interest in hockey and together with Tom McNorton, in the late 60’s early 70’s, we started a hockey club of our own. At first the club was just a bunch of friends playing pickup hockey once a week. Over a period of a few years that rag tag group of players grew into a competitive six team men's hockey league that was way over our skill level and we three originals left the league for less aggressive hockey pursuits. During that time Charlie was asked to coach a Minor-Atom travel hockey team in the old town of Riverside. I was flattered when Charlie asked me to be his assistant coach. This may very well have been the beginning of our mutual interest in working with children as a career. Charlie and I had a shared attitude about our goals with this team. We challenged and helped our 9 year olds to develop their skills in the game all the while enjoying the fun and spirit of competition. Winning was never our primary focus. Everyone on the team got to play equally, every game. As a result of this philosophy of sport our team won some and lost some. This was not good enough for the parents who expected us to win all the time. Subsequently we were not asked back to coach a second year. I am very proud of how Charlie stood up to the pressure to win at all cost. In late ’71 early ’72 we independently showed an interest in education. Cindy, already a respected classroom teacher, certainly had an influence on us at the time and we attended the Faculty of Education at the University of Windsor. Classes back then were organized in groups of approximately 20 students in alphabetical order by last name. That resulted in Charlie and I and Tom McNorton all in the same class together. Three hockey buddies. Needless to say we spent a lot of time together both during and after school. During that year Charlie and I devised an educational plan (aka: scheme) to go on a week long canoe trip in Ohio with my wife Mary and his future wife Cindy as part of an education week project. The challenges the four of us faced that week became stories that were told over and over again when gathering with friends. Unrelated to any of this, one night, Mary and I had Charlie and Cindy over for a fondue dinner. The meal was long and filling both of food and cheap wine, so much so that after dinner, the four of us fell asleep sitting up on our coach with our heads resting on our neighbour's shoulder. Although our friendship never waned our teaching careers and our commitments to raising our growing families drew us apart. But any time we were in the same room together there was always catching-up do and stories to reminisce. To this day I remember these times with my young friend and occasionally share a story or two of Charlie with a new friend, Charlie was a good person, a good teacher and a good friend. Uncle T-Boy, where does one start when there are so many fond memories of growing up in the Marier family. So many get togethers, and who can forget "the claw" or "eh duco quid quid" which still brings a laugh to Darrin and I every time we mention it. I know for sure the 31 table just got bigger in heaven. You carried the name of a great man, and I know Pepe is telling you how proud he is of you. Like Pepe, your commitment to your family and your faith was incredible. As a family we mourn your passing, but in truth we are all blessed to have had you in our lives. One of my favorite memories of Uncle Charlie is when Mike, Christa, Shayla, Sean and I were driving down to Coco Beach, Florida to meet Aunt Cindy and Uncle Charlie to celebrate my Mom’s 60th Birthday. Well, our GPS (named Linda) took us off of I-75; and we ended up in North Carolina. Knowing we would get her Dad anxious, Christa called him and told him we were lost. Uncle Charlie said, “Everyone knows to stay South on I-75 to get to Florida. How can you be in North Carolina”? Back at the hotel in Coco Beach, Uncle Charlie paced the floor back and forth — and kept calling to check on us. He could not even go to sleep until we arrived the next day. This story comes up almost every time we get together. We had him worried, but in a good way

Cindy, Christa, Che-Lyn, Cherisse, there are not enough words to describe the very special man your husband and father was. Everyone who knew Charlie tries to capture the right words but we all fall short in the listing of words that totally give credit to who Charlie was. Here are just a few words that come to mind…loving, honest, sincere, open, trustworthy, faith filled, super energetic, helpful, cheerful….and ever so humourous. You four, along with all who mourn him, can keep his memory alive and share the blessings Charlie gave to all of us. His deep love for you, Cindy, and you, his children, was so evident. His faith was deep and awesome. He lived his life united with the Lord and his faith is what is strengthening all of us right now, trusting, like Charlie, in God’s goodness. To you, the remaining “4 C’s,” please find comfort and peace knowing Charlie gave all he had to you, along with all the lasting memories that you now share. Along with everyone who honours and celebrates Charlie’s life, please be assured of my continued love, prayers and support. Needless to say Covid is delaying, for now, the celebration of life you wish for Charlie. The time for that will come. We thank you for live streaming his service on Wednesday and we appreciate being able to share with you. May peace be with Charlie and with you. God Bless ! Sandi Reinhart

To our dear brother Charlie, I will forever cherish so many moments. I’m so glad that we had our special 3 years together at the “old barn” when we had our Spitfire season tickets together. We’d sit at those games every Thursday night and share so many laughs at the many characters we saw weekly in our special corner seats, the best seats in the house. “Subway Elvis and Burger King Man", to mention only a few. Jerry will never forget the day you had to come to my apartment so he could ask you for my hand in marriage and you told him” You don’t have to ask me, just take her now!!!” We appreciated the effort you made to use your vacation time with Cindy and the girls to come visit us all over the states. You always made our Christmas Family party so much fun! We will miss so much about you but most of all we will miss your smile, your laughter and the deep love you had for our family.
