Obituary of Alfredo Sante Villalta

VILLALTA, Alfredo It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alfredo on Dec 23, 2020 at the age of 92. Reunited with his loving wife of 63 years Diana. Alfredo was born on April 20, 1928 in San Lorenzo Italy. He was a cherished father to Dino, father-in- law to Tina and proud Nonno to Ericson. He will be dearly missed by his brother Geremia. Alfredo was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews in Italy, Michigan and British Columbia. In 1950, Alfredo immigrated to Canada to work in the farms of Alberta and later the mines in Michel, BC. Feeling homesick he moved to Windsor, Ontario because as he said “I was closer to Italy.” He married his lifelong love Diana in 1952. Soon after he opened Alfredo’s Men’s Hairstyles on the corner of Gladstone and Ottawa Street. He was a barber for over 50 years until he gave his last haircut in 2005 which was his grandsons first. He worked the majority of those years with is work wife Armando Ceccucci who he loved and fittingly gave him his last haircut. Alfredo took great pride in his work and was awarded several Canadian professional hairstyling awards. Alfredo enjoyed to travel, he was passionate about music and dancing with his wife. On any given Saturday, Lawrence Welk would be on the television and he would grab his wife away from doing the dishes to dance in the living room. Alfredo loved people and was happiest surrounded by friends and family. On Sunday mornings, he could be found at Roseland golf course treating his foursome to a ritual thermos of precisely proportioned espresso with brandy. He had a life long love affair with soccer, Piave cheese and homemade wine. At the end of each meal, he would proclaim “Good food, Good wine, Good friends what more do you need?” His greatest joy later in life was his role as Nonno. He always made sure his freezer was full of ice cream just in case Ericson came over. He never missed a soccer game, a school play or piano recital. A heartfelt thank-you to the staff and caregivers at La Dolce Vita for their care and compassion. Also, special thank-you to the caregivers at The Villages of St. Clair for their dedication especially during these most challenging times. In his memory, please wear a mask in public and take COVID-19 seriously. It is real and it hastened his death. A private family memorial to celebrate Alfredo's life will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral home. If you so desire, in honor of Alfredo’s love for children, donations to the John McGivney Children’s Centre would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL (South Chapel) 3048 Dougall Avenue, 519-253-7234. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.windsorchapel.com
