Obituary of John Toth
Passed away peacefully on April 4, 2019 with his family by his side at the age of 56 years. Best friend and soulmate of Shelley (nee Sippel). Beloved father of Tiffany Ann Savic (Nikola), Cheryl Szczechura (Adam), Tracey Noori (Syar), and Maxwell Toth. Papa John to Angela Deshaies (Matt), Sarah Cole (Derek Sargent), Brad Cole (Taylor Benne) and Jill Starnes. Adored Opa to Sofia and Fiona Savic, Isaac and Coraline Szczechura, Payton Deshaies, Haili-Jade Hamel and the late Mila Savic (September 9, 2012). Loving son to Frank Toth and the late Pauline Toth (March 13, 2016). Dearest uncle to Masen and Cooper Sholomiski. Loving brother to Pieter Toth (Kate), Frank Toth Jr. (Tina), Joe Toth (Treena), and Liz Sholomiski (Kevin). Dear nephew of Adrian and Gloria Rodenburg and Jack and Flora Rodenburg.
John’s service to his community started in 1982 when he served as Separate School Board Trustee with the Windsor Board of Education until 1985 when full funding for grades 11 and 12 were introduced. He was later elected to the Windsor Roman Catholic Separate School Board and served as Trustee for six years. John was a member of the United Way Campaign Cabinet for 5 years, supporting programming to assist our most vulnerable communities.
John began his career at Fabco in 1986, serving 12 years on the negotiating committee and working there until it closed in 2010. John’s commitment to Local 195 and the Union movement started during his career at Fabco, and John has served in various positions with the Local since 2001. John was a driver with Vets Taxi for 4 years, served as Chair of the Local 195 Adjustment Program from 2006-2012, and served on the Board of Directors of Workplace Windsor Essex from 2011-2017 including 2 years as Vice Chair. John has also been a respected member of the Windsor District Labour Council for over 20 years.
John proudly served in various roles with Unifor Local 195 Executive Board for seventeen years, three years as 1st Vice President and most recently as President Local 195.
John’s family would like to thank Dr. Elfiki, Dr. Aoun and Dr. Rukavena and teams for their excellent care.
Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd East 519.253.7234 on Monday April 8, 2019 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. Visitation will resume on Tuesday April 9, 2019 from 10am until time of Chapel Service at 11am. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to United Way.
