I met John when I was 14 years old and even then his work ethic and intellect were apparent. We went our own ways and little did I know our paths would cross again. This quote best expresses what John meant to me. “ The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances; if there is any reaction, both are transformed.” - Carl Jung RIP JT. With Great Sadness, Caroline

John and I started together at Fabco over 30 years ago where we quickly became the best of friends. I have so many cherished memories from helping him with drywall on Lincoln road on a less than shoestring budget to John helping me with my roof with an overcooked steak as a reward. We had a great time shooting an ad for his campaign for School Board Trustee and working with him on the Fabco Adjustment Committee. I am so grateful for these and many more memories. Through the years I saw John grow into one of the most generous and insightful members of our community. I am proud to call John a dear friend and thanks for having my back through all these years. Our heartfelt condolences to Shelley and the entire Toth family on your loss of a great man

My Dear entire Toth family, Brothers and Sisters of Unifor L195, and United Way Friends: I am deeply sorry for the loss of such a giant in this community. Remembering our dear friend John, having shared more than 35 years of friendship along with a ritual of watching the World Juniors Hockey for decades. Most recently, we had the opportunity to travel to Vancouver to attend the live games which is a memory that I will cherish forever. John will be forever memorialized for his tireless activism in our community in caring for others, a strong voice for those less privileged. Our heartfelt thoughts are with Shelley and family. John was more than a friend, he was family. Until we meet again my friend. Doug & MaryLynne Praill

To the entire Toth family, I had the pleasure of working with and knowing John for many years as community and social activists. We've been at many conventions, demonstrations and rallies. John was a man of integrity. Soft spoken but extremely articulate when expressing a view or making a point. My retirees were fortunate to have been allowed to be a tenant in his Local's Union hall for a few years now. John always treated my retirees with respect and dignity. Something we will not forget. He will be missed by us at the hall and many in community. I want to thank each and every one of you from us in the Labour movement for sharing John with us. May God bless you all. Rest in Eternal Peace my Brother...

John convinced me to come out of retirement as an employment counsellor to help the laid off workers of Local 195 in 2008. The following 5 years were to be the best work experience in my long career. He demonstrated the most energetic and passionate care of the laid off workers and their families. He showed respect to everyone and earned their respect in return. My condolences to his family and friends. Your loss is also an incredible loss to our whole community.

John was a great big brother. He was always there when I needed him. He could be silly, stern, affectionate- whatever the situation called for and he always knew what was needed. A lot of my favorite memories growing up include my big brother John. From teaching me how to shoot pool, playing road hockey or just hanging out fixing things at Lincoln Rd. John was and is a big part of who I am today and I will continue to cherish his memory every day of my life. Love you Big Brother. Joe
