Obituary of Alvin Idris Crundwell

CRUNDWELL, Alvin “Al” Idris Peacefully on March 14, 2019, Al passed into the arms of his Lord and Saviour. Cherished husband and best friend of Mariann (Hodgson). Beloved father of their children Marc (Cindy), David, and Leslee (Michael Martell). Loving grandfather to Brenden, Brianna, Chelsea, Katie, Aubry, and Cole. Brother of Edwin (Alvina) and David (Lorette) of Chatham. Predeceased by this brother Don, and his four sisters Elsie, Dilys, Gwen, and Elaine. Brother-in-law of Mae Hodgson, Glenyce Graham, Alice Robertson, Dorothy Wright, Jane Seguin, and Pete and Margaret Hodgson. Uncle too many nieces and nephews. Special “Mr. C.” to Jessica, Caitlin, and Brady. Al retired from Canada Border Services Agency after 35 years of dedicated service, having taken on many different roles. Al was a superintendent at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel at the time of his retirement. Al was an avid stamp collector, building an extensive collection, especially stamps representing the Scouting movement. Al served over 60 years with Scouts Canada as a leader, receiving the Chief Scout's Award, which is the highest award which can be achieved at the Scout level in Scouts Canada. He enjoyed attending the Canadian Scout Jamboree’s across Canada to meet with fellow scouts from Canada and other countries. Al also enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time in nature. Al lived to follow his grandchildren in their sports and activities. He could be found supporting them at the arena, at the soccer field, at dance recitals, and at cheer competitions in the Windsor-Essex area, as well as also traveling across the province to support them. He was their greatest supporter and they looked forward to seeing him at all of their events. No matter where Al went, he always managed to strike up a conversation with others. He was known for his gift of talking, and his family always had to wait to leave until he was done talking with everyone. Those whom he spoke with always remembered their “chats” with him, and especially his dry humour and his wit. Al always lived his life based on a quote he found early in his life: “A person’s most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen, and a hand willing to help others.” – Unknown Author. Al truly lived this every day, and there was no one he would not listen to, or go out of his way to help. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL (South Chapel) on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 2-5pm & 7-9pm. Chapel Service will be held the following day on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 11:30am. If so desired as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Essex would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff of 3 West at Richmond Terrace, especially Rob Laforet, for their exceptional care and compassion.
