Obituary of Mildred Rideout

RIDEOUT, Mildred Passed away peacefully on July 10, 2016 with family members at her side, Mildred Rideout of Windsor, Ontario. Born on September 3, 1920 to George and Julia Peckham of Victoria, Newfoundland, Mildred was predeceased by her parents and siblings Gladys, Sandy and Josiah. She was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, Pastor Ford Rideout, of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland and Labrador, whom she met in Toronto about 1950. After their marriage in 1952 they returned to Newfoundland and together served assemblies in Bay Roberts, Swift Current, Victoria, St. John's, Glovertown and Botwood. Her passion was music and many will remember her as a singer, as a coach and as a choir director. After her husband returned to St. John's to take up an administrative role with the PAONL, and when most people her age would have been retiring, Mildred resumed her pre-marriage occupation as an interior decorator and seamstress with Hayward Interiors in St. John's. She took a great deal of pride in her work and worked for the sheer joy of creating masterpieces until she was well into her seventies. She loved to entertain and she was a wonderful cook and hostess. As a widow, Mildred moved to Windsor in 1997 to be close to her family and immediately got involved in Parkwood Gospel Temple where she organized and led Sweet Spirit Singers, served as an usher and also was frequently involved in the hospitality department of this large church. She was loved by all who met her. She joined the gym when she turned 80, finally got busted for speeding at age 85 and bought her last new car at age 88. She reluctantly handed over her keys after suffering a stroke that same year but she remained stylish until the end. Left with fond memories are her two sons Glenn and Fraser; grandchildren Adam (Christine), great-granddaughter Lucy, Matthew (Melanie), their mother Susan; Benjamin and Elizabeth and their mother Angela Colley; step-granddaughter Ayan and her mother Marta Da Costa. Mildred will also be mourned and missed by a number of others who regarded her as a second mother. They will remain nameless for fear of leaving someone out. No doubt she is scouting out vocal talent in her new home and examining the window coverings with a critical eye. Arrangements have been entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Central Chapel) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd E. Memorial visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Parkwood Gospel Temple (3005 Temple Dr. Windsor) from 9:30am until time of memorial service at 10:30am. If desired, donations may be made to Parkwood Gospel Temple Music Department in memory of Mildred. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared at www.windsorchapel.com
