My deepest condolences to Joe, Erminio, Mike, Robbie and their families, and to Silvana and all of Uncle Johns surviving relations. Uncle John was such an important figure to so many of us cousins when we were growing up, the quintessential hardworking Italian, someone willing to take on any task and able to master any skill. Way back in the early 60s at the house on Dufferin he was already perfecting the backyard-grape-bower-and-garden-plot and the do-it-yourself-second-kitchen-in-the-basement that were to become veritable Italian-Canadian institutions. I have many fond memories of my familys visits to Windsor in those days and of one or two week-long stays that were quite magical and helped inspire some of my fiction. Uncle John was both an imposing and an inspiring presence, and he will be greatly missed.
