Obituary of Dr. George Edward Yee

Yee, Dr. George Edward M.D., F.R.C.P., D.Sc. A celebrated physician and philanthropist, Dr. George Yee, passed away peacefully on November 11th in the loving arms of his wife, at age 79. Devoted son of Charles Yee and Pauline Harrison. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Faye, the love of his life since pre-Kindergarten. He will be deeply missed by the other loves of his life; his 4 children Leslie Yee (Kevin Ryan), Dr. Lauren Yee (Dr. Jerry Tan) Jennifer Yee (Dr. Albert Schumacher) and Dr. Charles Yee. He is survived by his best friends, his brother William Yee (late Lise Yee) and his sister Margaret Wong (late Horne Wong). He leaves behind seven grandchildren, whom he adored; Dr. Victoria Tan, Westley Tan, Alana Ryan, Charlotte Tan, Camille Ryan, Brigitte Ryan, and Alison Schumacher. Through his dedication and perseverance, George excelled at many endeavors; from sports, to medicine, to business. As an athlete he humbly collected awards as some would collect parking tickets. He was an All-Canadian, and was inducted in to the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 as part of the Winnipeg Rods football team. At a tryout for a competitive baseball team he hit two home runs and a triple his first three times at bat. In his later years George played squash, ran marathons and was an avid skier. George was honoured to be a member of the Medical profession and worked tirelessly to serve his patients. His vision and dedication to service led him to become CEO and Laboratory Director of Medical Laboratories of Windsor. He proudly received numerous awards and accolades on behalf of MLW and its employees for Community Service. George was extremely grateful for the gifts God had given him, and shared his success with his community through charitable initiatives and donations; the University of Manitoba Medical School, the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Windsor Symphony, and the Ontario Medical Association student bursary fund as the founder and lead contributor. For his volunteer activities he was awarded the Queen"s Jubilee medal. Though George"s shoes may never be filled, his legacy of kindness, humility and the devotion he exhibited in everyday life is a beacon for family and friends. George"s last wish for friends and family: "No tears please. I"ve had an unbelievably, fantastic life." Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Banwell Chapel) 519-253-7234 11677 Tecumseh Rd. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at St. Anne Church at 10:45 a.m. for Words of Remembrance followed by Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Anne Cemetery.
