Obituary of Paul Raymond Almond

ALMOND, Rev. Paul R. ( Deacon) Died Sept. 21, 2011 in his 76th year at the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County. Beloved husband of Olga. Loving father of Katie ( Kathy Hoffman ) of Toronto; Duncan of Windsor; Lara Litterick ( Jason ) of Windsor, Nicole Carr ( Scott ) of Windsor. Grandfather " Jeje " of Cameron Almond - Hoffman. Paul is also survived by his sisters Joan MaCrow ( London) and Heather Dubois ( Norm ) of Windsor as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Donald and Jimmy and his sister Carol. He also leaves his sisters -in-law Millie Hreno ( John ) and Mary Black. Paul served as a chaplain at the Met Campus of the Windsor Regional Hospital and previously as a Pastoral Counsellor at the Teen Health Centre and as the long serving Executive Director of Junior Achievement. As well he served as a Captain in the Royal Canadian Regiment. As a community servant, he served as a director of a number of agencies and organizations in Windsor. He was the recipient of many awards and honours for his community involvement, including the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977. Apart from his ministry as a hospital chaplain he was happiest working in his faith community at St. Aidan's Anglican Church ANIC. He did not pass by on the other side, but attempted to be a Good Samaritan. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County; Community Care Access Centre, particularly Matt Faubert; Millie Hreno, Heather Dubois, Janis Almond, Bonnie and Tom Dumouchelle, Neil and Pat MacEwan, and the Rev. Tom Carman. The family would also like to thank all the friends and family and parishioners of St. Aidan's Anglican Church ANIC for their prayers and loving support. Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home ( 519-253-7234) ( Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E ( Corner of Banwell & Tecumseh Rd. E ) on Monday September 26, 2011 from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM. A Veterans memorial service will be held Monday evening at 7:30 PM under the Auspices of the Windsor Memorial Veterans Committee. Celebration of Paul's life will be held on Tuesday September 27, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel. Celebrated by Rev.Tom Carman. Cremation to follow. A private interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Paul's name may be made to the Hospice of Windsor & Essex County - Residential, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Essex-Kent Chapter ( Formally known as the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation) or to St. Aidan's Anglican Church ANIC.
