Obituary of Dougald Alexander MacDonald

MACDONALD, Dougald (Doug) October 28, 1941 - October 25, 2011 It is with extremely heavy hearts the family of Dougald MacDonald announce his passing on October 25, 2011 surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer and just 2 days short of his 70th birthday. Son of the late Angus A. and Mary Janet. Loving husband to Anne (Campbell) for over 40 years. Devoted father to Tammy (Rodney), and Gary (Tara). Big brother to Theresa (Urban), Aneas and her late husband Henry Power, Donald (Mary), Joe (Mary), Jack (Margie) and Ann Marie and her late husband Bob Donnelly. Special "Papa" to Alexis, Gavin, Zoe, Zachary, Zander and Zane. Cherished brother in-law to Jackie and Jeanette Campbell, Jim (2009) of Cottam, ON and MaryAnne Campbell, Colin and Cathy Campbell, Jane and Sandy MacKinnon, Joan and Duncan MacDonald, Angus Campbell and Kevin Campbell; all of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Special cousin to numerous relatives and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dougald was born October 28, 1941 in South West Mabou, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. He came to Windsor in 1966 to find work at the Ford Motor Company for 38.5 years of dedicated service and was a member of the CAW Local 200. He was involved in numerous causes and charities and continued the legacy of the Maritime Slo-Pitch League, bowled in the Maritime Bowling League, was the president of the Cape Breton Club, and a member of the Nova Scotia Club. Dougald was a proud brother in the Knights of Columbus as a member of the 3rd Degree Council #9645 at Most Precious Blood Church and a 4th Degree member of the Father Alphonse Kerckhaert Assembly #2289. He was a parishioner of Most Precious Blood Church and a volunteer of their hospitality team as well as their St. Vincent De Paul Society. Dougald was also a member of the Scottish Club and a volunteer for the Hospice of Windsor. He was the president of the "Breakfast Club" at the Back Road Caf" and a member of the Thursday Card Club at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255. Doug devoted his time as a driver for the R.S.V.P. program (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program). In his spare time, Doug enjoyed watching his hockey games, particularly the Windsor Spitfires, where he was a season ticket holder. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Thursday, October 27 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers Friday at 7:30 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree prayers and 4th Degree prayers and presentation of the Chalice at 8:00 p.m. Funeral service on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10:15 a.m. from the Funeral Home then to Most Precious Blood Church for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. That was evident by the scotch music that could be heard playing in the kitchen, the car, the garage, even on the porch. He was very proud of his heritage. A life well lived a rest well deserved.
