It was with extreme sadness that I heard of Dougal's serious illness and of his passing. He was a man who made a profound difference in his community and among the many, many people whom he touched. He will always be remembered as one of the kindest and most giving persons I have ever known. Indeed, he was a wonderful friend to the MacNeil family for as long as I can remember. I offer my sincere condolences, and prayers, to Ann, Tammy, Gary and to all the McDonald family.

Dougald was a truly amazing man who had a big heart. He was always there to help out when needed especially volunteering his time to help those less fortunate. I don't think he was every thanked enough for everything he did. He was a staple in our family and will be sadly missed. Not seeing his smiling face at family gatherings will be difficult. Anne, Tammy and Gary our deepest thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you go through this difficult time. Rob and Karen MacMillan

Dear Anne and family: We are shocked and saddened , first of all to hear about Dougald's illness, and especially to learn of his passing. I (Jessie) have known Dougald as long back as I can remember growing up at Glencoe Station. Our mother would take us back to SW Mabou where I was born, to visit his parents' house. Dougald arrived in Windsor a couple of years after I did, and Reggie and I both know and appreciate all he did for the Maritime Club and also the Cape Breton club. He kept the CB club going when no one else had the energy or desire to do so. Please accept our sincerest condolences. It is a huge loss to all of you. May he rest in peace.

Dougald's many, many acts of kindness and compassion were known to us all. Whether it was someone in need and Dougald coordinated the efforts for a collection or his efforts in keeping the Cape Breton "clan" united in dance, cards, softball or lunch...We are proud and honored to be able to say we knew him. Anne, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Maggie & Mike

Anne, Tammy, Gary, Rod and Tara words fall short at a time like this but I wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. I know it is a blessing that his suffering is now over but I can only imagine how difficult this time is. Dougald was such an amazing example of how to live an honest and faithful life. He was a man who stood up for his beliefs, was always ready to help and willing to share what he had with those who needed it. He was also one of those rare individuals who actually listened to what others had to say - he may not always agree with it (haha) but he would listen. I am not saying anything that you don't already know... I guess I just wanted you to know that we all saw how amazing he was. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. He will be missed by so many.

An exceptional person in every way to everyone of us who were close to him and also to everyone around him. As one of my brother's said "He was always there" Another said." My deepest sypathies go out to the entire Macdonald family. I will always remember Doug and his many lessons and stories and his kindness to make all around him feel wanted and his sense of humour. Many hundreds of hours of enjoying his lifetime of stories and his deep love for his entire family. Loving his wife Anne and his children Tammy and Gary was the most important to his heart. I had the pleasure of having a great conversation with Doug 4 months ago and we both enjoyed it very much. Even during long stretches of years of not seeing each other, talikng to Doug for just a few minutes would always remind you of how much of a good man he was and his giving nature would always remind you that you were a friend of his for life. God Bless you Doug and God Bless the entire Macdonald family and remember Doug is safe with the Lord in amazing heaven.
