Obituary of Robert Truman

Passed away on February 16, 2020 at the age of 89 with his loving wife and son by his side. Dear husband of 51 years to Barbara. Loving father of son Darin and daughter-in-law Christina. Cherished grandfather of Emily and Maddie. Dear brother of Evelyn Grant and nieces Bonnie, Laurie and Donna. Beloved brother-in-law of Dianne White. Predeceased by his close brothers-in-law, George White and Don Grant. A gentle spirit who cherished his family and regular Sunday dinners together. He also valued his time as a distance runner; his footsteps have blazed a trail in rain, shine, sleet or snow throughout the Village of St. Clair Beach and the roads around Pike Creek for 40 plus years. Short Sunday runs were “just” 26 milers. Post run “Sunday breakfasts” with his running buddies with the Pike Creek Running Club for 30 plus years were an integral part of his life. Bob completed many marathons, including Boston, Detroit (last Detroit marathon at age 72), and Sweden representing Canada at the World Masters Championships in 1977. Although his health would not allow him to clock as many miles at the end, in his heart he was always a runner. Bob showed unwavering love and devotion to his wife as her caregiver for several decades. He was always eager to lend a hand to son Darin and family. He was a shining example to his grand-daughters of a father and grandfather with integrity and compassion for others. He will be greatly missed. Thanks to the caring staff at Heron Terrace whose kindness has been greatly appreciated. Family and friends will be received at St. Anne’s Parish (12233 Tecumseh Rd E) on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 for visitation from 10am until the Funeral Mass begins at 11am. Interment to follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in appreciation to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (519-253-7234).
