Our condolences to all of the Truman family on the loss of your loved one, Robert. Vicki and I have known Robert and Barbara since the mid-seventies and have shared many wonderful social and running experiences with them both. Bob was one of 12 members of the YMCA that were recruited as volunteers for one week at the Olympic Marathon in Montreal in 1976. We all stayed at a house of a former co-worker of mine in Montreal. Each morning, Bob was the first one up and dressed, ready for our 10-mile run to start the day before we headed to the Olympic Stadium for the day. He paced the floor, anxious to get going, while the rest of us slowly crawled out of our sleeping bags and got our running gear on. On another occasion, at a marathon in Ottawa, just as we were about to leave the house to take Bob to the start location, the keys to the car got locked in the trunk. You should have seen the look on Bob's face, terrified that he was going to be late for the start of the marathon. We did get him to the start on time. Right up to recently, we have enjoyed semi-annual restaurant get-togethers with Bob and Barb and friends. We will miss him very much.
