Obituary of Lucille Lavigne

LAVIGNE, Lucille (Sister Marie-Louis), SNJM Passed away peacefully on December 15, 2008 at Devonshire Seniors Residence at the age of 91. Daughter of Louis Lavigne (1983) and Marie Beauchemin (1925). She was born in Detroit, MI, October 30, 1917. Predeceased by her brothers, Robert Lavigne O.P., Ralph Lavigne, and Richard Nelson. Survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Lavigne, nephews, nieces and many friends. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in Outremont, Montreal in 1935, and celebrated 71 years of religious profession. She taught in many parochial schools in Michigan and Chicago for 41 years before retiring to care for her aging father in Burlington, Vermont for 5 years. In her retirement years, Sister maintained many contacts with former students, parents and friends, while ministering at Huron Lodge for 16 years. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Road East on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to join the Sisters and friends at Our Lady of Assumption Church, (350 Huron Church Road) on Thursday, December 18, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of the Resurrection at 9:30 a.m. Father Jim Carruthers officiating. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. The Sisters would like to express their gratitude to the Basilian chaplains and Devonshire Staff for their solicitous care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Names for their charitable works.
