Obituary of Bonita Jo Anne Drago

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our cherished Bonita (Bonnie) Drago (nee Norris), on January 3,2025 after courageously battling a lengthy illness. Deeply mourned by her beloved husband Robert William of 55 years. Loving Mother of Ian (Lori), Michael (deceased) (Sandra), Amy (Gee). Grandma of Ayden, Liam, Evelyn, Madeleine, Curtis and Taija. Cherished sister of Gayle (Bob deceased) Meilleur and of the late Don Norris. Godmother and Friend Inez Coleman. Bonnie was born in London, Ontario on August 10, 1939 to the late Stan and Vera Norris. She will be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Bonnie is celebrated for her generous and kind spirit, vibrant presence, and wise counsel. A devout Catholic, she left an undeniable mark on everyone she encountered. She took immense pride in her husband, children and grandchildren, always ready to show off one of her purse sized photo albums. Bonnie started as a Bell Telephone operator at the age of 15 then left for the Canadian Navy to become a WREN. She was a Sr. WREN when all sailors were called back to Dartmouth for the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bonnie was creative, and generous, continuously standing up for the underprivileged and for social justice. As a guide leader at Drouillard Place, Trefoil Guild member, Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph, life membership in the Naval Association and the Royal Canadian Legion. She is known locally and provincially for her work in Development and Peace; Chairing the London Diocese Council. She was very proud of her Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Award for her service to others. For the past 25 years, every Wednesday afternoon she could be found with The Women in Black, walking for peace in a world affected by war. She challenged us all to be better stewards of our world. The family would like to thank The Windsor Dialysis Unit Staff who made her treatments tolerable and to Windsor Hospice.
