I am so deeply saddened to learn this news. My heartfelt condolences to Pat and the family. Most of my memories of Dave will be linked to the Mio/Manz Charities and the work Dave and Eddie put in to help children. I considered Dave a great friend and mentor. Even though too much time has passed since the last time we spoke. Like everyone else I will miss him. May you rest peacefully.

Jarrod, Jordan and Batten family,
Deepest condolences on behalf of the Painters Union.
Dave has been a wonderful partner to us over the years. He has had a meaningful impact on our members, past and present; condolences as well to his longtime staff who are also very affected by Dave's passing.
He was always a big story teller, and he will live on in all of our stories as well.
Last year at this time I had called him, and I called while I had just started to put my Christmas tree up, and I had finished and he was still talking. The only reason he stopped is that Pat was waiting on him to leave :)
I am personally thankful that he took that kind of time with me to share his knowledge and to show his commitment to his partnership with the Painters Union.
Rest in peace Dave

Dear Patricia and Family,
My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. David was a remarkable friend and an inspiring individual. I cherished working with him—though perhaps it's more accurate to say working for him—as we raised funds to bring smiles to children's faces and help make their dreams come true. His unwavering dedication to assisting the less fortunate was truly admirable.
I will never forget the Dream Lift that David and Eddie invited me to participate in, one of the best days of my life. David, in his compassionate and thoughtful way, tried to prepare me for the profound emotions I would experience during that journey to Disney and back. He was right, and I was deeply overwhelmed by gratitude and humility to be part of something so meaningful.
David will undoubtedly be welcomed home with open arms, and I imagine the lineup of friends and grateful souls waiting to greet him will stretch endlessly. His kindness and generosity touched so many lives.
Rest in peace, my dear friend.

My deepest sympathies to you all during this difficult time.
When I first met Dave, it was immediately clear that I was in the presence of a man with an unwavering mission to support the Sunshine Kids. At the time, I was the Chairman of Ford of Canada. Dave's passion and dedication to the Sunshine Foundation of Canada inspired me to donate a new vehicle each year for the auction at the pairings dinner before the annual golf tournament.
Dave was an exceptional businessman and a remarkable friend. He had a unique gift for remembering the little things while prioritizing compassion and kindness.
Dave, you will be deeply missed. Your Sunshine Kids will miss you, too, but your legacy will endure for generations in the hearts of your grandchildren and all those whose lives you touched.
With heartfelt condolences,
Jim O'Connor.

We were saddened to hear of Dave's passing and wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Pat and family. Elaine and I have great memories starting with Shoreline hockey, vacations with your family, Mio/Manz Charity events, and working together on the Eurostar project in Austria. Dave always surrounded himself with the most talented people which allowed him to perform the most difficult tasks with amazing results. I know this is a difficult time for the family, but you are in our thoughts and prayers. Dave will be missed and remembered by all.

Sincerest condolences to the Batten family. I met Dave back in 1991 when we worked on a project at Rockwell International. We instantly hit it off with wit and repartee quips and in the many ensuing years would frequently cross paths on the patio at Jonnie Shotz where we would exchange good natured insults and jibes. We always enjoyed this interaction and friendship with Dave who was always jovial, friendly and generous. We are so sorry to hear of his passing and have many good memories him.

I laugh at remembering Dave’s impersonation of Billy’s Scottish brogue! With all he built, it was his family and friends that were his greatest legacy.
Davey, we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
Pour a wee dram o’ Glenmorangie for me, we’ll drink it down the road. Your buddy, Dr. Ed Roberts

Pat and family- We were deeply saddened to hear of Dave’s sudden passing. Growing up together in Riverside and with the rest of the Belle Isle View Blvd. gang, there are many fond memories Dave and I shared over the years. I was truly honoured when Dave asked me to be his best man at your wedding. (And of course, Dave was my best man). I think of the countless hours spent on Dave’s back yard skating rink and the numerous times Dave and I went out with his parents on his Dad’s boat. Yes, we were childhood friends and it was a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Denise and I pass along our condolences to you Pat and your family. Dave will certainly be missed.

We at Roncelli would like to send our sincere condolences to all of the Batten Family. Those of us who were lucky enough to have met Dave will miss his words of wisdom and friendly smile. But the very few of us that were even luckier to listen, and share laughs to his stories will definitely miss those occasions. Both Jordan and Jarrod have shown similar qualities as their father, and it is a pleasure to be on the same team.
Sincerely,

Dear Patricia and family, we all lost an amazing man who truly left his mark on this world with honesty and integrity. I had the good fortune to meet Dave during the 1983 Chrysler min-van conversion. When faced with the unimaginable task of field touch-up on countless bays of overhead conveyor I had to trust his judgement and that was the beginning of a long and valued business relationship and friendship. Dave and the gang were people you could always count on, no nonsense and get the job done. Manz Contracting and the companies it keeps speaks volumes for Dave's ethics. A class act all the way.

My deepest condolences to the Batten family. Dave was a special individual with a zest for life and always made everyone he met feel special. Everyone who knew him, will miss him and I’m sure his passing has left a hole in your family’s hearts that will take time to heal.
For me, his 2014 Winter Classic trip, to the Big House in Ann Arbor, stands out as a memorable time with Dave and my Son, who passed away in 2017. You left your mark as a positive impression on the world and it’s a better place because you were in it. RIP David.

Pat and family: We are so sad to hear of Dave’s passing. We have known Dave only a short time, but it took us little time to see the influence his love and generosity impacted his family, friends and community. We could see the way he embraced his daughters-in-law and son-in-law. He always gave well intentioned advice and loving support. Memories of this advice will go with you everyday forward and those memories you will treasure.
Love,
Catherine (Morrison) and Allan MacRury
