It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dargie Whitton Bennet on October 8, 2024 at the age of 81. Loving husband of Diana Bennet (nee Browning), for 55 years. Devoted father to Trevor Bennet (Lyn), Deborah Bennet, and Geoffrey Bennet (Nora). Proud grandfather to Morgan Bennet, Jackson Bennet, Ryann Bennet, Luke Bennet, Casey Bennet, Autumn Bennet, and Gabrielle Bennet Hughes. Twin brother Dave Bennet (Myra), and uncle to Cameron Bennet (Tanis) and Craig Bennet (Jacqui). Predeceased by his parents Dargie and Margorie Bennet (nee Dahl). He will be missed by all his family and friends.
Dargie was born on September 22nd, 1943 in Portage la Prarie, Manitoba, and rasied in Neepawa, Manitoba. He attended the University of Manitoba where he obtained a Bachelor of Science, with a major in mathematics. After graduation, he worked for Alcan Inc. in Montreal, Quebec; relocating to Kitimat, BC and eventually to Cleveland, Ohio. While working at Alcan in Montreal he met his wife Diana, and settled down to have 3 beautiful children.
Upon deciding to return to Canada, he worked at Suncor for 27 years in various locations (Fort McMurray and Edmonton, Alberta; Sarnia and Toronto, Ontario; and Denver, Colorado). Throughout these years he enjoyed sports such as curling, hockey, and football. He retired to Guelph, Ontario and lived in the Village by the Arboretum for 17 years. He was very involved in the web committee and the sound and lighting committee. He was a "snow bird" and enjoyed winters in Ocala, Florida for many years.
Visitation at Windsor Chapel, 11677 Tecumseh Rd E., Windsor will take place on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024 from 2pm to 5pm and from 7pm to 9pm. Funeral services will proceed on Thursday, October 17th, 2024 at 11am at Windsor Chapel followed by a procession to Heavenly Rest Cemetary, 5005 Howard Ave., Windsor.
