Obituary of Joseph Perpich

Joseph Perpich passed away peacefully on May 10 at the age of 93.

Joseph's legacy of love and devotion lives on through his wife of 74 years, Donna Rose (née Bolton), and his sister, Ann Maras. He was predeceased by his brothers George and Eli and sister Matilda “Tillie” Keglevich.

Joseph was a beloved father to Joseph Michael (Lynne), Gary Dell (predeceased), David William (Lynn), James Robert (Cynthia), and Steven Paul (Nancy Turrin). His role as a grandfather was cherished by Joanna (Chris), Laura Marie (Anthony), David Stanley (Sara), Ryan James, and Jason Michael (Erika). Forever holding his memory close are great-grandchildren Nathan, Damien, Liam, Eli, Ella, Gabriella, Joseph, Carmen, and Jack.

Joseph was born on Wednesday, August 27, 1930, in Windsor, Ontario, the fifth child to Eli and Mary Prpich (nee Brkljacic). As a boy during the Great Depression and World War II, Joseph grew up with frugal spending and rationing. As a result, throughout his life, there was no soup can, bleach bottle, or milk jug that he couldn’t cleverly repurpose for extended use.

As a student and gifted athlete at Walkerville Collegiate and WD Lowe Technical School, Joseph excelled at soccer and football and medaled in numerous track & fielding events. His work career included employment at Canada Packers, ten years as a constable with the Ontario Provincial Police, and 28 years as a security officer with General Motors, retiring in 1993.

Joseph's love for hunting and fishing was only surpassed by his deep affection for his family and friends. The acquaintances he gathered throughout his life are a testament to the strong bonds he formed. Those who had the privilege of knowing him, and there were many, found him to be a steadfast friend, always ready to lend a hand.

Joseph's solitary enjoyments included a lifelong love of gardening and general “putzing” around the yard and garage. He found joy in competing at cards, especially euchre, and played right up to his last days.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
