It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our matriarch, Iole Margherita, surrounded by her loving family, on March 28, 2024, at the age of 91. Predeceased by her husband Antonio (2013), parents Federico and Maria Torti, parents-in-law Domenico and Liberata Pallisco, and infant brother Americo Torti.

Adored Bis-Nonna aka Big Nonna of Sebastian Decarolis, Vinny Culos and Stella Decarolis.

Dearly loved sister of Adriano Torti and Fernando Torti and sisters-in-law Antonietta Torti and Rita Torti. Beloved sister-in-law to Mario and Maria Pallisco, Alberico and Yolanda Pallisco, and Maria Pallisco (Paris, France). Predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law Fiorinda and Luigi Torti, Yolanda and Guiseppe Iacoboni, Raffaele Pallisco, Santina and Guiseppe Delicata. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada, France, Italy and Boston. She will also be missed by her dearest, dearest friend Carmelina Franciosi, with whom she shared a friendship that spanned a lifetime.

Iole was born in Atina, Italy and witnessed World War Two as a young girl. After the War, she began lessons from a talented seamstress who nurtured her talent for the needle arts. She spoke of her time there with great fondness and pride. In November of 1953, she left her family and travelled alone to Canada to marry her fiancé, Antonio. Together, during almost sixty years of marriage, they raised a family of four children. The arrival of grandchildren provided her with an expanding opportunity to share her love. She was so proud of her grandchildren and her home had many of their photos on display. The arrival of three great-grandchildren brought her such incredible joy. Her heart overflowed with love for them. Their photos were displayed in the foyer so that everyone could see and admire them.

Iole was able to use her sewing skills to create beautiful garments for her daughters and friends. She was a wonderful cook, fabulous baker and gifted gardener. Her tomato sauce, meatballs, home fries, cookies and ciambella will be sadly missed. We will cherish the memories of the baking sessions with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her flower garden with beautiful hydrangeas and roses were exceptional.

Iole was an appreciated member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry of the CWL Ste. Anne Parish. She crocheted and knitted beautiful blankets and shawls that were given to the sick and bereaved.

We would like to give special thanks to the Personal Support Workers from ALSO who assisted our mother and allowed her to stay in her home for as long as she did. She spoke kindly of all of you. We offer our deepest appreciation to the medical staff at Windsor Regional Hospital -Met Campus ER and Sixth Floor North and the medical team at Emara Rehabilitation Centre for their compassion and excellent care afforded to Iole. She was so touched by the kind and loving care that she received. It would be difficult to name everyone who cared for her but there are two nurses, Brittany and Giulisa, who cared for Iole in her final hours that were exceptional. We thank you for all that you did during that time.
