Obituary of Winnifred Ward

Winnifred Josephine Ward died peacefully on February 29, 2024 with her husband and children by her side. She was born September 8, 1932 in Windsor, Ontario to Hilda and Reginald Pitre and was sister to Gerald, Joyce, Reginald and Marilyn, all of whom pre-deceased her. Winny was married to Joseph Thomas Ward on September 29, 1951 and together they raised Victoria Ward (Lloyd Campbell), Randall Ward (Denise Finnie), Jo-Lynn O' Brien (Michael O'Brien), Rebecca Ward (Maurice Feldman), Joseph Ward Jr. (Shirley Ward), Julie Ward and Lois Ward (Greg Maichele). Winny was beloved by her 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandsons, her large extended family, dear friends and neighbours.

Although Winny's life was often defined by mothering and nurturing of others, she was a creative soul with a life filled with love of adventure with travels across North America: with laughter, dance, art making, feistiness and much love.

In accordance to Winnifred's wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Atonement Church on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 10am until the time of Funeral Mass, presided over by her dear friend, Fr. Rob Rocheleau at 11am. Inurnment to follow at Heavenly Rest. In Lieu of flowers, donations to Iris House, Windsor ON would be greatly appreciated in Winny's honour.
