Obituary of Kimberly Matton

MATTON-Kimberly Jane (Nee Patterson)

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Kimberly Jane Matton (Patterson) on November 15th, 2023 at the young age of 61 after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. Wife and best friend of Doug for 37 years. Proud mother to Teron, Tyler, and Connor.
Daughter of the late Patrick and Suzanne Patterson. Sister to Kelly (Mark), Karen (Steve) and sister-in-law to Chuck (Kathy), Rick (Wendy), and the late Bob(2010).

While her battle with cancer showed us all of her great qualities; Intelligence, Strength, Resilience, Thoughtfulness, Humour, and Selflessness, it will never define who she was.

Kimberly was raised in a family where her parents believed that girls were every bit as capable as boys and that with hard work and high expectations, their daughters could do anything they wanted.

With that guidance and support, all the Patterson girls would go on to achieve success. Kimberly always achieved the highest of grades and worked to pay her own way through University. She would first earn a Bachelor of Computer Science degree (before the invention of the laptop and when coding was done on punch cards) and later an MBA during which time she worked full time and also gave birth to twin boys that arrived three months premature.

After continuing to work and raise a family she developed a successful professional career eventually in the field of Human Resources. While she had the ability to rise to greater roles of responsibly, she made a conscious decision to give that up to focus on her family and raise her three sons for which we will be forever grateful.

Kimberly was an all Ontario athlete in high school, and had a passion for art, all kinds of music, and loved to dance.

Kimberly worked to make holidays and vacations special for her family with Halloween and Christmas being two of her favorites. She also loved camping especially at Killarney Provincial Park.
She always did her own summertime flower arrangements that were spectacular and her backyard was her oasis.

She loved traveling to the Caribbean and was most at peace in a lounge chair by the ocean, or with a glass of red wine at an ocean side restaurant.

We will miss her smile, friendship and laughter but will always be guided by the many lessons she taught us throughout her life. Her spirit will forever burn bright every day in our hearts especially on holidays.
We also want to express our many thanks and gratitude the countless number of health care workers who have cared for Kimberly over the last seven years.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Windsor, Windsor Cancer Center Foundation, or Princess Margaret Cancer Center in remembrance of Kimberly are appreciated.
