Obituary of James Nelson

NELSON, James John James John Nelson passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the age of 95. Jim was a much loved and devoted husband to his loving wife Edith (February 17, 1995) who his faith tells him he is now reunited with. A much cherished father to Joanne (1956), Robert, Dennis, Tom (Cathy), Karen (David) and Ron (Tracey). He delighted in his grandchildren; Lyndsay (Will), Jacob (Elizabeth), Ian (Erica), Luke and Kayleigh and his first great grandchild Emilia. Jim is predeceased by his parents, James and Mary Nelson, his brother Doug (Glenna) and his sister Elizabeth (Edward). He will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, dear neighbours and friends. Jim was a loving and devoted husband and father. A gentleman in every way who was always ready to offer a kind word or a helping hand. Jim spent his professional career in the newspaper business starting as a paper boy in Woodstock at eight years of age. He eventually became the City Editor of the Beacon Herald in Stratford and in 1959 began work in the sports department of the Windsor Star from where he retired in 1995 as the Assistant Sports Editor. He gave generously of his time and talent to local sports organizations and served on the Executive of the Windsor Minor Hockey Association Board of Directors for many years, establishing the governing by-laws, rules, and regulations. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A time of remembrance will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. 519-253-7234, on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 pm in the chapel.
