On behalf of the Fathers’ family we offer our condolences on your dad’s passing. He was a true gentleman and a great colleague of my late father Ken. Both your dad and your mother were also great friends of my parents and I remember them well attending our house when there was a get together of other members of the sports and photo department.

With affection, I used to call Jim the Admiral after the famous British naval officer. In the midst of chaos, there was an almost mystical balance, calm, and sense of purpose about him. I recall asking how he did it. He laughed. He said it was a mystery best kept secret even from himself. A wise man. A mentor. No doubt resting in peace.

My first seven years at the Star coincided with Jim’s later years. We worked together on nights in sports through those years and I truly enjoyed Jim’s presence each night as a coworker and friend. Conversation and banter shared with him I always enjoyed, along with his easy-going manner and frequent smile. Jim will always be remembered by me very fondly and I am happy to see he was able to live such a long life despite his loss I’m sure now being very painful for the family. My condolences on his loss.

Things occasionally got feisty in The Windsor Star sports department at night when I dropped in to file a piece for the entertainment pages. Jim, though, was the personable one with whom you could always exchange a pleasant few words. It has already been said but it bears repeating — he was indeed a gentle man.

To Jim's Families. We are so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. We both enjoyed seeing him so often at our Windsor Star Retiree Luncheons, so many years back now. Always came in smiling just like in this picture and always ready to sit and listen and chat. We are so sorry we never connected up again after such a long time. Such a wonderful man and it was honor to have known him for sure. Sincerely Linda and Mick Happy

I always enjoyed talking sports with Uncle Jim. His recollection of past events was phenomenal. He had a quiet, witty sense of humour and a wonderful smile. Just as so many people have said, he was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. So glad the Nelsons all reconnected over the last few years.This photo is from our first Nelson reunion in 2019 at my house in London. Uncle Jim kept hinting that we should all get together and I'm so glad we were able to make it happen. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.
