(January 5, 1928 - July 2, 2023)
George Osborne, a devoted family man and treasured member of the community, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at Hospice Leamington, surrounded by his loved ones.
George was a beloved husband to the late Oletha (Lee) Osborne (2006) and previously to the late Kathleen Ritchie (2022). He shared a special bond with his twin sister Barbara (Ray - deceased) Suominen and was a dear brother to the late John (Beverly) Osborne and the late Robert (Barbara) Osborne.
George will be deeply missed by his children Marcia (John - deceased) Fuglewicz, Ron (Julie) Osborne, Doug (Joanne) Osborne, Jan (Brad) Wilson, Stacey (Terry) Howie, Tom (David) Allems, and Laurene (Tom) Strong. He held a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren, Curt, Kevin (Katherine), Lisa (deceased), Veronica, Carrie (Bob), Jamie (Samantha), Sam, Maggie (Trevor), Lindsey, Nick, Mitchell, and Shelby. Furthermore, he was a loving Great Grandpa to thirteen adored great-grandchildren, and will also be missed by cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
George's commitment to service extended beyond his family. He served faithfully as a member of the United Church of Canada from his teenage years until retiring from committee work at the remarkable age of 90. He exemplified a life of faith and service, embodying the values of compassion and kindness.
George's involvement in various community organizations demonstrated his unwavering dedication to making a difference. He served as the Director of Guestwood Camp, and actively contributed to the Optimist Club. His leadership there extended to his role as a Lieutenant Governor, where he worked diligently to create positive change within the community. George found joy in his role as a cub master and akela, shaping the lives of young scouts and instilling in them the values of teamwork and personal growth.
Professionally, George had an exceptional career spanning 42 years at Wyeth Pharmaceutical Co. He started as a chemist and steadily rose through the ranks to become Senior Vice President, overseeing Windsor operations. His dedication, expertise, and leadership were instrumental in the company's success and growth.
George's love for adventure led him to travel to over 50 countries, capturing the beauty of different cultures through his passion for photography. He was also a member of the Windsor Yacht Club where he shared his love for sailing with family and friends.
As we bid farewell to George, let us celebrate his life and the remarkable impact he had on those around him. May his memory be a guiding light, reminding us to embrace family, serve our communities, and seek adventure in life. George will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
A visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home - Banwell (11677 Tecumseh Rd E) on Friday, July 7 from 4-8pm. Visitation will resume at Tecumseh United Church (333 Lacasse Blvd) on Saturday July 8 at 10:15am until the time of service at 11am. Interment at Victoria Memorial Gardens. In memory of George, donations can be made to Tecumseh United Church or to Hospice.
