Obituary of Giacomo Povoledo

POVOLEDO Giacomo Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday June 1st, 2008 at Extendicare Southwood Lakes, at the age of 95 years. Giacomo went to his beloved wife Livia (2004), and his beloved son-in-law Peter Pellarin (April 10, 2008). Cherished father of Maria Pellarin and Alfeo (Lillian) of Woodstock. Loving grandfather of Steven Pellarin, Claudia (Greg) Murphy of London, David (Kerrie) Pellarin of Orillia, Aaron Povoledo of Toronto, and Jennifer Povoledo of Prince George B.C. Loving Bisnonno to Quinn, Sibeal and Vaughan Murphy, and Mitchell Pellarin. Giacomo was pre-deceased by his siblings-Antonio, Giovanna, Maria and Teresa. He is lovingly remembered by cousins, and many nieces and nephews in Italy. Giacomo was born in Montereale Valcellina, Pordenone, Italy on July 26, 1912. As was common at that time he went to work in the big city at the age of 13, was a veteran of the Second World War, immigrated to Belgium with his family in 1947, and then to Canada in 1949. He retired in 1977 from Windsor Utilities. He loved Canada and all of the opportunities it offered to him and his family. Life for dad was tough but he persevered with his strong sense of work ethic and pride in whatever he did. He was so proud of the house that he built mostly with his own hands, but his biggest pride and joy was his family. For many years, he was very active in the St. Angela Merici community and it's associations. He was also a longtime member of the Fogolar Furlan Club. Dad was very sharp right up to the end, and his sense of humour, and great common sense will be greatly missed by all. A huge thank-you to the staff of Extendicare for the loving support you gave Dad during his stay there, and especially all the kindness and support for him and for us in his last days. Visiting at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME 1700 Tecumseh Rd., East on Thursday June 5, 2008 from 2-5 & 7-9 pm. Prayers Thursday at 7:30 pm. Funeral Service Friday June 6, 2008 at 10:15 am then to St. Angela Merici Church for funeral mass at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
