Obituary of Carmela Gasparotto

GASPAROTTO, Carmela (nee Del Col) "ZIA" Passed away very peacefully, surrounded by the love of her nieces and nephews, July 20th, 2008 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Guerrino (1983) and dear sister of the late Elisa Taiariol (1986) and Ferdinando Del Col (1998). She is survived by one of her 15 siblings, Rina, of Italy and will be sadly missed by her loving nieces and nephews, Bernardina & Steve Uzonyi, Renata Del Col, Fernanda & Jim Soukas, Franco & Lily Perosa, Marilena & Ken Sawicki, Jennie Taiariol (Americo, 2006), Amerigio & Louise Taiariol as well as many great-nieces and nephews, including Idelma Marcon and Denisa Blackburn. She was a long time member of the Fogolar Furlan Club. Zia was Born in Pordenone Italy in 1916, the youngest of 16 children. She immigrated first to Argentina, then to Canada and proudly learned to speak both Spanish and English. She retired from Riverview Chronic Care Hospital in the early seventies in order to take care of her ailing husband, Guerrino. Zia was strong and independent and very proud she learned to drive after being widowed at the age of 67! Zia Carmela loved to laugh and always had a little "barzeletta" (joke) to tell. Zia was a very kind and generous soul who helped many people throughout the years. She always found something good to say about everyone. Zia will be missed as she was loved, greatly. Friends will be received at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 7 - 9 pm and Tuesday from 2 - 5 and 7 - 9 pm. Prayers Tuesday 8:00 pm. Funeral Service on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 10:15 am from the Windsor Chapel then to St. Angela Merici Church for Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Transition to Betterness or Italian Canadian Handi-Capable Association would be appreciated by the family.
