Gil - Bob and I were on the way to Fairbairn Cemetery yesterday and drove by the old farm and since we had extra time, drove down Joy Road and saw some people out in their yards and they informed us that Val had passed away. She was an amazing woman and what a mother and wife! It was a pleasure to have known her.

I had the pleasure of meeting Val in our dental office and was her dental hygienist for many years. Her visits often resulted in laughs from her witty sense of humour. I was deeply saddened to hear this and hope the wonderful memories of her will bring you peace.

I remember Aunt Val being completely in love with my cousin Andre and so proud of him. She hosted many family events I remember a few Christmases back in the day. She and my mom made sure the cousins got together when we were young. She took me out for pizza just her and me one time. She used to make a point to try to connect when she was in the neighborhood. I am most grateful for this visit 13 years ago. Thanks Aunt Val. May your spirit find peace and joy that lasts forever.

To Gil and Andre. As a member of the community we love and share I am so sorry to hear that Val has passed. She was a spark full of generosity and as lively as life itself. She knitted all of us the little slippers as gifts on our community Christmas Walkabout. I still have and love them. I will think of her hugging my toes every time I put them on. We will miss her. Wahwoe Valerie!!! It is hard to believe this will be the last time to great you like this until we meet in Heaven. Gil, Andre and Family, I am sorry for your loss. I cannot believe Val is gone. I am still trying to process the news. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Valerie was a very loyal friend, remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions by either a phone call, or a special birthday card, and most times, both. When Val would hear news about Oklahoma City, especially concerning our storms, tornadoes or earthquakes, she would ask Gil to email me or would call with her concerns about my safety. I enjoyed our visits when I was in town, and getting caught up with all the old neighborhood news. Hours would pass before we had to work our way off of our chairs and stiffly say our good byes until the next time. I am going to miss our getting together, who is going to keep me up to date with all the local news? Please say hello to your Mom, Dad, baby brother, and all the clan and give them my love. When you see, "Bert and Eleanore!!" could you give them a hug for me!!

My deepest condolences to Gil and Andre and other family of Val on the loss of this vibrant member of your family. I remember when Val and I first met on the Tecumseh Policing Committee and the fun times we had there. Then there were the Pasta nights……what a great way to stay connected and catch up on all the “gossip”! Even though the miles later separated us, we were still connected. Val, I’m so glad you and Gil got away on your European trip before you had to pass on to other pastures. Save me a spot at the Pasta table on the other side, dear friend!
