Obituary of Waldemar Jahns

Waldemar (Wally) Jahns

Beloved husband of Marilyn (MacVoy) of 61 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his 86th year.

Son of the late August and Lilli Jahns. Beloved brother of Lilla Frei and Arthur Jahns. Brother-in-Law to Linda O’Neil (Gord O’Neil), and Laurie Pepper. Predeceased by sister-in-law, Norma, and brothers-in-law Robert MacVoy, James MacVoy and Ted Frei.

Proud father of Dr. Brian Jahns (Renee Bubel) and Stephen Jahns (Dr. Sheri Roszell). Proud Opa and biggest fan of Lauren, Alec and Liam. Revered uncle to many nieces and nephews. Cousin to many in Alberta and BC. Friend and kind neighbour to many others.

Born in 1936, Wally immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1947 with his parents and siblings. After living with family in Alberta, the family eventually settled in Windsor. Wally was blessed to live a good portion of his life with his parents, his siblings and their families and place of work all within walking distance.

Wally was a proud, highly skilled and well-regarded Tool and Die Leader. A longterm employee of Border Tool and Die and later Canadian Engineering and Tool, Wally’s career spanned over 45 years and even took him to places like Shanghai, Beijing and the Great Wall. It was both common and extraordinary to hear him casually say “I built the die that made that (car) part” during family drives.

Wally enjoyed many hobbies including stamp and coin collecting, lapidary, woodworking and stained glass. The majority of his pieces were cherished gifts received by family and friends.

Donations may be made in Wally’s memory to Autism Ontario or the Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital Foundation.
