Many wonderful memories of Lou and family together at the beach, on weekends and summer holidays. Lou had many gifts and talents: was a great gardener, cook, mom, and support in the Ladies Auxiliary in the Royal Canadian Legion. She was a member of the Botanical society in Grand Bend, and could grow - or make anything, from beautifully knitted sweaters and slippers for all her (many) children and their spouses, her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren, to beautiful gardens, of any kind. Lou was a gifted hostess; and if you were in her home you were welcomed and well taken care of, as she always made time for everyone. She was constantly learning; something she taught me, and she used her gifts and talents for volunteering in causes she believed in. I remember the day we (Red, Pat & I) were playing Quiddler - a card game that she was very, very good at, and she was having trouble putting words together. Nothing was the same after that, and not much anyone could offer but our support and care for her in return. In her later years, it was so nice to see Lou being taken care of. She has done so much and has been an example of kindness and genuine concern for others that she has left a lasting impression on me in these ways. She taught me to be a better person. It's hard to believe she's gone. Sorrowful condolences to all the Meros, whom I haven't seen in quite a while; your Mom was one of the best. Rather than the Poppy fund, Pat and I have decided to donate to the Alzheimer's Society of Windsor, as more research and essential care programs and services are needed in this area. Hopefully, one day it will be preventable or curable.
