I was great friends with Caitlyn. We have drifted over the years, unfortunately. I remember first hearing about the devastating news. I never knew it would turn out like this... He beat it once and I, along with everyone else, thought it would be over. I heard about his passing 4 months after. I cried. I ugly cried infront of my friends. My heart goes out to Andrew's family and friends. Life is not fair... I'm so sorry.

I did not know Andrew personally, however, I know a few people that did, and it seems he was one in a million. Andrew seemed to be able to light up a room, just by being in it, he was able to bring smiles to many people and also bring comfort to those around him through things he would say and do. It seems he was a wise little guy that had much passion and love for those around him. I wish I had known him, as it seems this little guy was able to change the world for those that loved him. Personally, I believe he is looking down and sending all the love his big heart can give to those that love and miss him the most. Thinking of Andrew and how much he changed the world, even for people like me that did not even know him through the stories people would share about him. There aren't many people that have that affect on so many, so Andrew, thank you for being you. Michelle Bracewell-Musson

Andrew, Stacey, Jason, Chase, and Caitlyn were the first family we met when our 1 year old son was newly diagnosed with cancer and airlifted to LHSC from Thunder Bay. They were all so friendly, outgoing, and thoughtful. We will always remember how positive they were, no matter what situation they were faced with, and how Andrew was always so cheerful and ready to have fun. We loved stopping while walking in the hallways to talk to Andrew and participate in the day's games and pranks. So many times, Andrew put a smile on our faces when we were having a bad day, despite what he was going through himself. He had a huge heart. We cannot tell you how devastated we were, when we heard the terrible news that Andrew had passed. We are thinking of you all and will hold you in our hearts. Hugs from the Togtema family (Melissa, Greg, baby Angel Jensen, and Nolan).

Stacey, Jay, Chase and Caitlyn,
How lucky Andrew was to be born into such a loving family. How lucky all of you were to have Andrew with you, even for a short time. Andrew, such a spunky, humorous, kind, wise and gentle soul. I remember being at Janice’s apartment one day when Stacey brought Caitlyn and Andrew for a visit. I have problems with my feet and they were aching. Andrew jumps up and says, “I give great foot rubs. Would you like one”? Of course, I said yes. Well, he grabbed one foot and Caitlyn grabbed the other. It felt amazing! After a bit, their little hands were tired and they stopped, but Andrew came back to me and said, “My fingers are getting sore, but probably not as sore as your feet, so I will keep massaging it you’d like”? What a sweetheart!
The little guy I remember was usually wearing a huge smile and often had that sparking, mischievous little twinkle in his eye, always greeting me with hugs and ready to tell me what he has been up to or what his next plans were.
My heart aches for you having to endure such a great loss and knowing how much Andrew will be missed.
Take care of each other and hold on to all of the wonderful memories of all the love and great times you shared together as a family.
I will continue to hold all of you in my heart as you journey through this difficult time.
Love Brenda

We are so heartbroken over the loss of Andrew. We have been lucky enough to watch these kids grow up and get to know the Farrand family, babysitting all the kids and taking them fun places. We have always admired Stacey and Jay as parents and how much love they have for their children. Andrew was always such a funny little guy, full of energy and laughter. There are no words I can put to how much pain I feel for all of you. He will be sorely missed.

Dear Jacquie and Janice. I only met Andrew one time but that certainly left a lasting impression. It was last Christmas at Jackie's house and Stacey and her family came for a visit. Jane and I went into another room so the family could have some time together. Next thing you know, here comes Andrew flying into the room with those curls and sat down with Jane and I and actually had an adult conversation. I was so impressed with him that the memory will stay with me for life. I know how much you and Janice loved him Jacquie and I wish I had the chance to know him better. Watching the TV with Jackie and looking at the family pics is always a pleasure. You guys are all in my thoughts. xo

Andrew was in my 6th grade class last year at Tecumseh Vista. We were already well acquainted because I taught Chase (when Andrew was a toddler) and Caitlyn (when Andrew was in grade 3). I was over-joyed to teach the youngest of the Farrand Family, knowing they are such a wonderful family who support their children’s educations. I was eager and took it as my personal goal to help fill the learning gaps that school closures and previous hospital stays stole from Andrew’s learning. You see, I thought I would teach the lessons and Andrew would learn them; but that’s not exactly what happened. What I didn’t consider, were all the lessons Andrew would end up teaching me.
1. Never forget to laugh everyday. If there was a giggle started in my class, it was likely because of something Andrew said or did, and he had such a contagious laugh that most of us would end up belly laughing together.
2. Just be yourself. Andrew had the best and most unique sense of style. He was always wearing the most colourful clothing and tie-dye shirts, pants…everything! He embraced his new curly hair and loved to let it flow, accessorize it and swoop it away from his face. He loved to just be himself.
3. Honesty is always the best policy. We all have moments where we mess up and Andrew was always willing to fess up for blunders that happened in the classroom. He would proudly admit and share the reason why the pencil was stuck in the ceiling tile when I asked “how’d that happen?” He was a jokester at heart, and I could always count on him to be honest.
4. Never give up; no matter what. We often talk about grit and perseverance as teachers, but not many other 12 year olds show more grit in life than Andrew did. When I think about everything that he endured, I believe he showed more perseverance than most adults could have shown.
Finally I’d like to share my most sincere sympathies to Stacey, Jason, Chase, Caitlyn and all Andrew’s family. I will always remember and cherish the lessons Andrew taught me and I believe Andrew will always live on in our hearts.

I didn't know you, Andrew, but somehow I felt I did from all I heard about you. For someone so young, you were an old soul, wise beyond your years. You were a true fighter, brave and dignified in your will to live. You were caring and compassionate to your family and friends who stood by and cheered you on as you fought the good fight. You touched so many in your short life and I know you felt their love and strength in return. Andrew, you were in the hearts and prayers of many who lifted your name to the heavens, and who asked for a miracle. However, God had other plans for His beautiful child. When I heard your wish was to go in peace, on your terms, surrounded by your loved ones, my prayer was "Lord, please, take Andrew's hand and walk him home." You are safe and you are whole. Your family, Grandma Janice and all who loved you in life will honour your memory in death. God rest your sweet soul.

Dear Stacey and Jay. The Divine chose well when deciding to send this beautiful Andrew soul to you. A chosen family to nurture him, shower him with love, acceptance, support, and guidance. He brought joy into your life, and in those moments it was easy to love him. Your greatest and deepest love was given to him through the difficult journey that was unleashed for all of you, by his illness. He was clearly an old soul in a young boy's body. May you find peace as you journey through the grief that comes from such an inconceivable loss. He leaves you with a wealth of gifts to unravel, when you are ready.
Dear Andrew, have a peaceful transition.
