Obituary of Caterina Lopez

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and devoted nonna. Reunited with her loving husband Salvatore. Cherished mother of Sergio, John (Donna), Rose Vespa (Mike) and MaryAnne Lanoue (Dan). Loving nonna to Johnny, Grace, Joey and Marissa. Dear sister to late Carmela (late Nicola) and late Nicolette. She will be dearly missed by her many extended family and dear friends.  She joins her in-laws Giuseppe and Nora Lopez, Filomena and Antonio Durante, Luigi and Santina Lopez.  She will be sadly missed by her in-laws, Luisa and Sam Bitonti and Agostino and Gulietta Lopez.

Caterina had a special place in her heart for her grand-fur babies, Charlie, Wags and Ollie. Special thanks to Windsor EMS, the ER and 4North nursing staff, the ER Respiratory Therapists, Dr. Andrew Swartz, and especially Dr. Tyler Jervis for his guidance during this time.

Caterina was born just outside of Bari, Italy. She emigrated to Canada where she met the love of her life Salvatore. Together they raised a beautiful family. Caterina’s passions included teaching, learning, reading, traveling, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. While working as a full-time teacher for WECDSB she continued her livelong devotion to learning, achieving a Master Degree and PhD from Wayne State University. She was fluent in many languages and was always available to assist people with translations, culminating in her role as Editor of the book Impronte - Italian imprints of Windsor. She was very dedicated to St. Angela Merici Church.

Despite her many passions her devotion to family never waivered. Her happiest times included spending time with family and friends, cooking her signature meals with love. Nothing broadened her smile more than spending time with her grandchildren.

Caterina was a gentle soul; considerate, compassionate, strong, forgiving and loving to all. Her judgment was never clouded and her good nature will never be forgotten.

Sal and Cathy loved to dance, travel, and entertain their friends and family. They are now reunited together, and may their travels continue in the Kingdom of Heaven.
