Obituary of Richard Bondy
BONDY, RICHARD “DICK”
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard H. Bondy on December 29, 2022 at the age of 87 after a defiant battle with cancer. Dick is survived by his dedicated and loving wife Helen (nee Fitzgerald). They were married for 66 years and shared a fulfilling life together in Windsor, Ontario. Helen will miss the greatest love of her life. They had a very active social life together with lifelong friends and a very close relationship with the extended family. Dick was the last of ten children born to Joseph and Blanda (nee Nantais) Bondy. He is survived by one sister, Monica. Predeceased by siblings Lloyd, Margaret, Janette, Vincent, Theodore, Stanley, Teresa and Andrew. Dick and Helen had five children; Bruce (Cherryl), John (Colette), Laura (Steve Miernicke), Philip and Daniel (Tammy). Sadly John passed away in 2001 at the age of 42. The surviving children will deeply miss their Dad. He was an adored and inspirational father who taught his children the values of hard work, kindness and respect for others. Dick was known as quite the handyman where he completely refurbished his cottage and finished his current basement, on his own, at an advanced age. Over the years Dick also kept up with the latest in technology. One of his latest purchases was a virtual reality headset where he could play simulated golf. He also loved the Shih Tzu dogs that he cared for over many years. All were named “Max”. Grandpa Dick had nine grandchildren; Alanna, Carolyn, Sarah, Joshua, Lindsay, Natalie, Robert, Eric and Ashley. He also had three great grandchildren; Aziz, Amélie and Miller. Very much a family man, Dick loved nothing better than celebratory gatherings where as many of the family members could attend. He especially loved hosting friends and extended family members at his beloved Bayfield cottage. Dick is well known within the Windsor community. He ran a small business, Bondy T.V. and Appliances, for many years and he was quite active in the Catholic Church. Here he volunteered as a sound technician, a lay reader and a Marriage Encounter group leader. Dick was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and his many hobbies included bowling, golf and travel. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Wednesday, January 4th from 5 PM to 8 PM, with prayers at 7:30. A funeral mass with be held for Dick at 11 AM on Thursday, January 5th at St. Anne’s Parish in Tecumseh (12233 Tecumseh Rd. E.).
