My mother and I send our condolences to the family. Mrs. Grenier has always been a very special lady. She was my grade 6 teacher more than 45 years ago. Her teaching was powerful. Over the years I have often I found myself thinking of her and how much I benefited from being her student. Her way of teaching English grammar was thorough and rigourous. I continue to benefit from the strong foundation she gave us. My mom taught Kindergarten at St. William School in the 1970s. We missed the opportunity to send her birthday wishes when she turned 100, but this past summer visits were possible so we visited her at Seasons. In the style of a true living legend, Mrs. Grenier quoted “The Brook”, a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson that she memorized as a child: “For men may come and go, But I go on forever”. She explained that when she learned that poem at the age of seven, she had no idea that she would live so long. I felt like I needed to pinch myself: the experience of hearing my grade 6 teacher share this quote so many years later felt like a moment from a movie. That is real life with Mrs. Grenier; it feels too good to be true. Mom and I appreciate both the opportunity to have known Mrs. Grenier so many years ago and the opportunity to reconnect with her more recently. I will always treasure the powerful learning experiences and sweet moments that she gave me.
