I have just learned of Susan's passing and this is such sad news.
Susan was a FON - force of nature - in her work with the Federal Interlocutor's office in Ottawa where I first met her. She brought her creativity, intelligence and dedication to the Urban Aboriginal Strategy which had a very positive impact on the lives of Indigenous people from coast to coast to coast. Her smile was legendary, as was her laugh.
I last saw her when she organized her own going away party at a downtown Ottawa wine bar - no doubt to make sure everything was done right! She left to be closer to her family in southern Ontario - ever the dutiful daughter, sister, auntie and cousin. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. Her memory lives on with so many of us who were touched by her unique personality.

Susan and I kept in touch after working together several years ago at Indian and Northern Affairs. I always said I would work for her again someday. She was the brightest, kindest and most refreshing boss I had. I’ve emulated my leadership style from her guidance and from time to time I check myself : what would Susan do? The last time we spoke was summer. She was on a mission to improve the post-pandemic workplace and sent me a paper she was working on.
Gone way too soon , her huge smile lit up the room and her sense of humour was off the charts. We had so many good belly laughs. My sincere condolences to her mom and brothers, whom she spoke about a lot.

It’s hard for me to understand how Susan could be gone. I met her on my first day as a public servant in 1993 and we’ve been friends ever since (though it’s not been as easy to stay in touch since we both left Ottawa). I learned an incredible amount from Susan, especially about leadership and supporting local communities, and I’ll be forever grateful for having known her. Susan always spoke so highly of her family and I can’t imagine the loss they’re feeling. I hope all the good memories of Susan are helping with the difficulties of the last weeks.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Susan’s passing. My deepest condolences to her family, who, I’m sure, will miss her terribly. Susan was a much admired colleague, mentor and manager in the federal public service. I had the pleasure of working with her on and off over many years, and always enjoyed it. Susan radiated positive energy and was clearly committed to achieving excellence in her work ( which she did!). She was very collegial, a strongly supportive manager of her teams and great at bringing out the best in them. She was also just plain fun to be around. Susan was truly a good person, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to work with her.

My sincere condolences on Susan's passing, my heart goes out to her family at this difficult time. Susan and I worked together in the Office of the Federal Interlocutor and I remember her talking about her family all the time - it was clear that you all meant the world to her. Susan was one of my first mentors when I moved to Ottawa. She was so knowledgeable and full of passion, energy and fun that she made the workplace a source of joy. We grew apart over the years, but I always thought we would have a chance to reconnect. Susan, I will always remember the difference you made in my life and in the lives of so many others across the country.

Very sadden to hear of the passing of Susan. I worked with Susan when she was at Office of the Federal Interlocutor for a number of years. She was kind, funny and super inclusive. I used to joke she deserved a GLAD award for all the LGBTQ people she hired, I was one of them. I really enjoyed working with her and kept in touch up to her latest career move. I know she will be missed by many across the Nation who hold positive thoughts and memories. Deep condolences to her family near and far.

I was deeply saddened to hear this news. Susan was an amazing woman - she helped me bring Canada Learning Code to Windsor by providing space at the IBLS and was one of my biggest supporters when I told her I was starting my own business. She was an incredible human and role model, especially to women in tech and business. I will miss her dearly but I feel privileged to have known such a wonderful woman.
