Obituary of Bernice Hapak
HAPAK, Bernice
July 26, 1933 - December 17, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother in her 90th year with her family by her side. Predeceased by her husband George in February 1997. Dear daughter of the late Margaret and Joseph Tustonowski. Daugther-in-law of the late Anna and George Hapak Sr. Loving mother to Dr. Lesli Hapak (Dr. Tim McManus) and Rodney Hapak. Devoted grandmother to Dylan, Ryan, Darby and Dalyce McManus, and Jordan Hapak. Bernice was also predeceased by her sisters Helen Hunt-LaMarsh and Ruthie Turchan; brothers-in-law Charlie Hunt, Marv LaMarsh, Ed Turchan, Adam Zusko, and John Hapak and sister-in-law Annie Zusko. Survived by sister-in-law Sandra Hapak. Bernice will be missed by her nieces, nephews and many friends.
Born in Winnipeg and raised in rural Manitoba, Bernice and her family moved to Windsor when she was a teen. While working as a waitress after school and on weekends at the Cozy Restaurant she met the love of her life, George. They married shortly thereafter and started a family. Bernice always liked working in the kitchen and later in life as a grandma she cherished the many hours she would spend cooking, baking, and also attending sports and dance events with her grandchildren. Gma’s chicken noodle soup, perogies, and chocolate chip cookies were amongst their favourites. A devoted member of Sts.Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church, she enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons chatting with her Church friends while drinking coffee and eating pastries.
Her family would like to thank the amazing team at Windsor Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided throughout her stay. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Caroline Hamm and her team at Windsor Regional Hospital Cancer Centre for the decade and a half of care they provided.
Mom/Gma - may your body now rest in peace and your soul soar free throughout eternity. Life to be continued elsewhere.
Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel (South Chapel), 3048 Dougall Ave. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Parish prayers at 7:30 pm.
