Obituary of Domenica Mandarino
MANDARINO-Domenica (nee Caldarelli) passed away peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, at the age of 75 on December 15th, 2022, after a long illness. Loving wife to Florindo Mandarino for 51 years. Devoted mother to Anthony Mandarino (Maria Marra) and Stefani Mandarino (Frank Fata). Adoring nonna to Valentina, Gianni, Sienna and Milana. Older sister to Michael Caldarelli (Maria). Predeceased by her parents Giulio (1996) and Elena (1997) and in-laws Antonio (1977) and Carolina (2004) Mandarino. Also predeceased by brother/sister-in-laws Michele Mandarino (1954), Elvira (2004) Michele Burza (2006), Santina (2022) and Oreste Falsetta (2021).
Domenica immigrated to Canada with her family from the mountain town of St. Stefano di Sessanio, Aquila, Italy at the age of 8. She graduated from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in 1970 and worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor. Domenica took great pride in her career. She was the calm, smiling face to many as they awoke from surgery, and was often called upon to translate for Italian patients. After her retirement, she once again returned to the hospital with the Volunteer Association, serving in various roles including President.
Deeply devoted to her children, encouraging them at every turn, she rejoiced in each of their milestones and achievements. As a nonna, her grandchildren always brought a smile to her face. A devoted wife, she supported her husband Florindo in operating Intrepid General Limited, a construction company. A woman of deep Catholic Faith, her devotion to others served as a model to all.
While heartbroken by her passing, we know that she is now at peace, able to watch over precious grandchildren from Heaven. The squeals of joy in her grandchildren's voices as they would announce "Nonna's here" as she pulled into the driveway will forever fill our home. Nonna's soup recipe will continue to nourish their bodies as her love will fill their hearts for eternity.
