It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Brothers for 52 years, I love you, I'm going to miss you and I would like everyone to listen to "Primer Coat" the The Drive By Truckers and think of Darryl :) Your brother from another mother - Pat McConnell "The Dude abides!"

To Patricia, Greg and extended Atkin clan. This is real tough news to read about Darryl. I have many fond memories of hanging with the family on Francois + St Joes, Brennan days. Darryl, Greg and I shared a passion for track and field as participants and fans of Olympic level athletes. Darryl was 'the guy we all wanted to be like'. He had the looks, he had the physique and he excelled at every sport he took interest in. He worked hard to be the best, and he often was. More importantly, he was a great personality, who always created a fun banter, never a dull moment with DA. Thanks for being an amazing friend and creating many life moments Darryl. RIP

No words of mine will assuage a loss felt so dearly by his family, but I can certainly express my heartfelt thoughts on the passing of ‘cousin Darryl’. Wow is all I can remember when I first met him, hanging out with bestie Gavin. He was larger than life, with an infectious laugh and a belly aching sense of humour. Legendary days on Strabane (no table was safe), Abars and the 45s (no song not sung), and the ridiculous feats of athletic prowess on basketball courts & football fields alike. He’ll always live large in my memories of days since past, his great joie de vie will forever bring a smile in remembrance of those halcyon days. Lay your head down now D man, you’re at peace. Deepest sympathies to the entire Atkin family who are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Dearest Atkin family, I am so very sorry to hear of Daryl’s passing. I now live in northern Ontario but think of our childhood often.
And though’s memories include all of our weekend football games at Ada c Richards trying our hardest not to get tackled on one of the two sidewalks that lead to the front doors. Track and field events with Mr. and Mrs Atkin always cheering from the stands.
The baseball and lacrosse games. MayDaryl Rest In Peace, and his memory be a blessing.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Atkin, Cornell and the entire Atkin family. My fondest memory of Darryl was watching in awe, with Cornell, the pickup basketball games he would organize on the outdoor court behind St. Joseph school, circa 1977/78. The Brkovich brothers from Lowe, the Smith bothers from Riverside, basically the who’s who of Windsor high school basketball at that time. Competitive & entertaining, and DA certainly exuded passion. I hope you can all find comfort in the good memories that you have.

I went to Brennan High School with Darryl, played basketball with him, and had the pleasure of calling him friend. There was never a dull moment hanging out with Darryl. I will always remember his expression, "Reckless Abandon." I had not seen him in years, but thought of him often. He was a very talented and gifted individual, who had an infectious laugh and lived life to the fullest. Darryl will be greatly missed. Condolences to the family.
