Obituary of Joseph Sassine

SASSINE, Joseph Badwy

Passed away peacefully on November 19, 2022 at the age of 90. Born in a small town Serhel, Lebanon. Married the love of his life Nouhad (nee Taouk) in 1962. In 1958 Joe moved to Australia, he opened Joe's Grocery Market, in the Punch Bowl District of Sydney. Joe was a well known businessman. He moved with his wife and family to Canada in 1968. He is very well known for Brite Lite Variety on Erie Street, which he ran for over 30 years. Joe will be most remembered for being kind, giving, and a businessman with an unforgetable memory. Throughout his life he was a proud family man and business owner. His cousin Michele says his door was open to anyone who needed and always willing to give. Many will say ”Joe was my friend.”

Cherished father of the late Patrick (2020), Tony, Denise, Fayze. Adored grandfather of  Marcus, Sylvain, Stephanie, Joseph, Anne-Marie, Evangeline, and Tatianna and great-grandfather of Isaac, Anthony, Eryk and Sariah. Predeceased by his parents Bawdy and Wahda Sassine and two sisters, Layla and Elaine and brother Michele. Survived by brother Tony Sassine and wife Rene. Joe was a faithful service member of St. Charbel Church and assisted with St. Charbel Festival Events.

Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E., 519-253-7234 on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 2-4pm and 6-9pm. Parish Prayers at 7:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at 11am at St. Charbel Maronite Catholic Church (5700 Outer Dr.). Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
