Obituary of Eric Henry Burston

“My wish has been granted, I’m on my way to meet up with my beloved wife, helpmate and best friend Jean” Eric Henry Burston of Windsor, Ontario peacefully left us, surrounded by his family, on the same day as his birth, 96 years later. His indelible spirit and creativity will be forever remembered by his children Tim (Joanne), Jane (John) Vaccher, Chris (Isabelle), and Jill (Ian) Anderson. Grandfather to Stephanie (Jeff), Brian (Jenn), Meghan (John), Mark, Justin, Michael, Emma, Robbie, and Erica. Great grandfather to Samantha, Molly, Tate, Bradie, Sophia, Rowyn, and Jack. Eric was the youngest of three born to Henry and Dorothy Burston (nee Mills) in London, England. Predeceased by sister Betty and brother Roy. His amazing life included boyhood years in Westminster, London. A member of the Boy Scouts, a student at Buckingham Gate Central School where he was backstroke champion of West London in 1935. Enlisting in The Royal Navy at the earliest age he could, served as a signalman on the HMS Newfoundland and HMS Rame Head. Eric was honoured with many medals during his service in WW2. He and his bride immigrated to Windsor, Ontario in 1950, and was a founding member of the Canadian Anglo Club. Eric retired in 1984, enjoying many wonderful years traveling across Canada and the U.S.A., camping with Jean at Pinery Provincial Park and spent many lovely winters in Riverview, FL. Extremely artistic he became an accomplished oil painter in his later years. He was a voracious reader. He taught us the grandeur of nature, the virtue of honesty, the simplicity of creativity, the value of love, friendship and loyalty, exploring the cultural gems of our region, the great American and British songbooks, Danny Kaye and Lawrence Welk.
