Obituary of Antonietta Fantetti
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Antonietta Fantetti, 90 years, on January 29, 2021. Beloved and devoted wife of the late Antonio Fantetti (July,1995) with whom she shared 46 years of marriage. Loving and devoted mother of Gennaro “John” (Catherine) and Donato “Dan” (Marion). Treasured Nonna of Kristen (Seth), Steven (Kelly), Bryan (Chelsea), and Andrea (Alvin). Precious Bisnonna to Everett (Fantetti) and baby brother arriving in June.
Antonietta was born on April 21, 1930 to her parents Donato D’Onofrio and Maria Grazie Vaccari in Bonefro, Italy. She was a loving sister to her siblings in Italy (all predeceased) and will be missed by many relatives and friends in Italy, Canada, the United States, and throughout Europe.
In 1966, she and Antonio moved their family to Windsor, Ontario, Canada, where they started a new life with new opportunities, filled with hope and promise for their future. This courageous move didn’t come without its challenges, but Antonietta’s determination, and strong resolve ensured their family’s success. She instilled in her children, the importance of striving for high ideals while reminding them that hardship makes you stronger, and can always be overcome with determination and the love of family.
Antonietta was a loyal friend and had many lifelong relationships. She was always thoughtful and kind to others and was a wonderful listener. She possessed a warm sense of humour and laughed often. She loved to crochet and often made blankets for family and friends.
Antonietta had a passion for gardening, spending countless hours outdoors where she could be found tending to a wide variety of vegetables and beautiful flowers.
The love of her family, especially her children and grandchildren, were the centre of Antonietta’s life. Her stories of family and times living back in Italy were a delight for all her grandchildren to listen to, while they enjoyed her precious Sunday cooking and desserts (world class lasagna and cannoli’s!). Forever a source of inspiration and wisdom, she would tell the best stories to her grandchildren that always seemed to have a way of fitting a lesson into your life, giving you the very strength and advice you were looking for at that moment; she was the quintessential mentor with the secrets to life.
Antonietta was a woman of deep abiding faith and a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. It was this strong faith in God that sustained her throughout every moment of her life. She will be forever remembered for her kind and generous heart and joyful spirit.
The family thanks the PSW’s, nurses, doctors, and support staff at the Village of St. Clair (Schlegel) 4th Floor Talbot, for their continuous support and loving care to Antonietta during her residency. We are grateful for the kindness, comfort and empathy she received, throughout her final days.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021, followed by entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Antonietta may be made to the Eye Foundation of Canada. Arrangements entrusted to Windsor Chapel Funeral Homes 519-253-7234.
