Obituary of Jane Josephine Cizek

JANE JOSEPHINE CIZEK
6 September 1945 ~ 31 January 2021
She could light up any room with her smile and her sense of humour and her wackiness were unprecedented. She was always making funny remarks and telling hilarious stories. This woman loved to laugh. She was a fantastic cook and a foodie at heart and never ever turned down dessert. Jane lived her life out loud and without apology. She was a terrible singer but that never stopped her from calling every single one of us on every birthday and belting out a song. She was generous with her love and fierce with her loyalty. You could always count on Jane. She was a force to be reckoned with and will be missed enormously. She taught us how to live, how to love and most importantly, how to take care of one another.
She lived for us, her family, and we followed her example of selfless loving in her death. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her children. It was a sad and sacred event. Jane was a dedicated, generous, and vivacious mother to Gina Mollicone-Long (Andrew Long), Marla Mollicone (Chris Holliday) and Daniel Mollicone (Tracy White). Her greatest joy was in her role as a devoted, animated, and doting grandmother to Molly, Simon, Ella, Ruby, Hazel, Lily, and Emily. Jane is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Slavka Cizek as well as her sisters Mary Drakich and Angela Cizek. She was an attentive aunt to their children: Ed, Kristine and Andrew. She was adored by her close circle of friends.
Jane was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia and came to Canada with her family in 1950. Jane held many diverse careers in her lifetime. She began as a teacher at Walkerville in the late 1960s and then gave that up to raise her three children. She returned to school to get her MBA and worked as a finance executive at Chrysler in Dearborn. She leapt into the world of entrepreneurship with the launch of the sparkly and zany Spearrings in the late 1980s and then finally returned to teaching at Walkerville and Kennedy where she spent the final 15 years of her working life.
Jane’s life was punctuated with a spirit of selflessness, exuberance and adventure. She was deeply devoted to her faith in Jesus and her ultimate experience was a solo trip to Israel in 2019 to experience her faith firsthand. Jane had an incredible circle of fun-loving and genuine friends and spent many a day laughing, crying and celebrating with the countless people that she loved. She simply adored her grandchildren. Nothing brought more joy to Jane then to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She travelled near and far to be with them, play with them, care for them, watch their recitals, school plays, graduations and to bask in their mutual adoration.
We would like to express gratitude for her exceptional team of medical experts, PSWs and nurses. With their support, Jane was able to fulfill her vision of a peaceful end of life comfortably at home, surrounded by her family. She was steadfast in her principles and her faith. In her final days, she also showed us how to die with grace. Special thanks Dr Khan and Dr Valero for their wisdom and guidance. Deep gratitude to Charlotte from Home Instead, and to PSWs Lee, Zainab, Alice, Rosemery and Janet from St. Elizabeth, Sarah and Christina from VON, Rose from Bayshore, and her nurse Adriana from Paramed as well as Dr. Bergeron and the entire team at Windsor Hospice. We are eternally grateful that she lived in a community that provided such patient-centred support.
The current pandemic prevents us from having a fitting funeral. A private family ceremony will be held. We will hold a proper celebration of life this summer that will exemplify Jane’s glamourous spirit. We appreciate your support and love from a distance.
