Obituary of Katerina Elenis

ELENIS, Katerina (nee Stamatakis)

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother and yiayia on Friday July 8th at the age of 93, surrounded by family. Katerina grew up in the village of Malona, on the island of Rhodes, Greece. She married Anastasios Elenis in 1954 and arrived in Canada in 1967 with her two children making their home in Sault Ste Marie. In 1984 Katerina relocated to the City of Windsor. Katerina worked hard in raising her children in Greece while her husband sailed to work in Canada ahead of the rest of the family. Upon settling in Canada, she continued to be a dedicated mother and, while being employed, she was thrilled to work alongside her co- workers. She made many close friends and was loved by everyone. Katerina’s joy in her life was being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They have been the love of her life. She was a loving mother to her son Tony (Elaine) Elenis, and her daughter Stella (Tony) Giahatzis and will be greatly missed by them and by her grandchildren George (Lindsay) Giahatzis, the late Christopher Giahatzis, Andrew (Camille) Elenis, Katie (Sean) Ducharme and John Anthony Elenis, and by her great grandchildren Colton, Callie, Wesley and Lyla and relatives and friends in Canada and Greece. Predeceased by her husband Anastasios Elenis, parents Emmanuel and Stamatoula (Anastasas) Stamatakis, sisters Maria and Georgoula and brothers Stamatis and Philippos. The family would like to thank the caring staff on the seventh floor of the WRH - Ouellette campus for their wonderful care of Katerina in her final days. Visitation will take place at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Central) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E., 519-253-7234 on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 6-9 pm with Thrice Holy Hymn Service at 7:30 pm. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 11:30 am at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church (3052 Walker Rd). Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
