Mrs. Creed as I knew her was my English teacher at Brennan. I was an athlete first and a student second. I was a lousy student, but Mrs. Creed always showed me support and made me feel good about myself even though she knew I wasn’t putting any effort into her class. Because of this, she was always one of my favourite teachers. She easily could’ve been upset and discouraged with me but she chose to treat me with respect rather than add to my troubles at the time. I will always be grateful to her for being so kind and supportive!! She will live on in my heart!!

Dear Cate and Melissa ... your mom is incredible! I have so enjoyed knowing her and had been looking forward to seeing her in person after such a long time. She made me feel safe to express anything. She was interested in everything. We had great conversations about how to love and respect and try to understand your loved ones, how to engage in life to the fullest.
When my husband, Alex, had his heart incident, Pat was so strongly supportive for both of us. She spoke to me at all hours, and she has been a wonderful penpal, always managing to make me laugh and give me good, practical advice. And both Alex and I appreciated her helping my father-in-law Walter so much! She was so proud of both of you, and often shared stories about your families and your adventures. Sending love and hugs your way ... I know you both, along with Maya, Micaella, Maurizio, Fran, and Pat's other family and friends are missing her so much. She is one of a kind. I feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with Pat!

Dear Cate and Melissa,
I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom, Pat.
I taught with your Mom at Brennan from 1967-69, but my fondest memories of her are from 1973 when I visited your family for 6 days in Rastatt, Germany. I recall your Mom generously touring me around the area. The Black Forest was a highlight. As was the Schloss Favorite Castle near Kuppenheim. We toured the impressive castle and checked out the pond. According to my journal, you girls enjoyed feeding the swans. Do you remember that?
Both at Brennan and in Rastatt, your Mom was always friendly, organized, and caring. She will be greatly missed.

Like the Holy Spirit, Pat was everywhere it seems. Her answer was "Yes, I can do that" or "Yes, I'll be there." Her "yes" involved her with many people, places and things. I knew Pat from St. Anne Church and from the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario(RWTO). Her participation and active assistance in our work was most appreciated. Her delight was when she would meet up with her Family. Family was important to Pat. She would ask about mine and share what she had been doing with her Family.
Dear Pat D.-- there will be many in Heaven to greet you. I'm sure Bob W. will hold the door open as you enter.
For all of your Caring and Sharing in your lifetime - thank you, and to your Family for sharing you with us.

I am so sorry to hear of Pat's passing. I had the privilege of working with her on the Executive of the RWTO/OERO Windsor-Essex Branch. She had an infectious smile. The last time I saw Pat we had a long chat in the Parking Lot of Shoppers DrugMart. We reminisced about the luncheons we had been too for the RWTO/OERO and how we couldn't wait to go to the next one.

So very sorry for your loss. She was indeed a very special teacher and person, and one of the most influential people in my formative years. At Brennan she helped me better appreciate the power of words and the potential of one’s voice…something that has served me well over the years and on my journey in life. People have sometimes likened my words and voice as being my superpower. It was Pat who not only held that particular mirror up for me but she greatly encouraged me to strengthen it. I feel blessed too that she stayed in touch over the years. Even as I journeyed far and wide it was always a pleasure to receive her hand written notes in her recognizable handwriting. Her notes may no longer be, but for those of us who were touched by her know, she has written her kind and inspiring words on us with an indelible ink and spirit.

Pat and I met in Grade Eleven at Corpus Christi High School. Throughout the ensuing 65 years, our paths have merged and dissected and merged again. We double dated, played on the same teams, taught on the same staff, loved the same kids (our own and other people’s). There were nights spent at my kitchen table writing scripts for satirical stunts at staff parties and student awards ceremonies . There were baby showers interrupted by the birth of babies and Christmas cookie exchanges and even a night shivering in the coldest bedroom in southern Italy. In these most recent years, we have laughed and reminisced and tried to remember what’s trump. In every incarnation of this very long and yet much too short relationship, Pat has been the very best of friends - loyal, strong, loving and forgiving. I have been lucky to have her in my life. She has made me a better person. I will miss her.

Cate and Melissa, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I loved her so much and have so many great memories of being in her classroom. Beyond that, we were friends and I could tell her anything. She is who inspired me to be a teacher and I hold her lessons dear to my heart. I will always remember her kindness and willingness to help. Case in point, a few years ago I had a stay in the hospital. I came home and was on painkillers and it so happened that one evening my husband and sons were gone for an evening and was left alone. I was afraid to be alone and I called her and she came over and sat with me. She was like my mom. Please know you are all in my heart. Love Vilma

Sweet, sweet Cate! & Melissa, and Fran, and family.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Pat, so I can't very well leave a memory or a story, but reading the obituary I feel an extra wave of sadness. Not only am I sad for the loss you're all unexpectedly managing, I'm sad that I did not get to know Pat. She touched so many people - and by the names of some of those crowds she hung with, I can tell she was a LOT of fun! May her memory be a blessing, and her life be honoured, and may each of you who grieves find strength and comfort in one another.

Dear Cate, Meliissa, Fran and Family,
I am shocked and saddened to read of the passing of your mother. My deepest condolences to you and your extended family. I was heartened to read that you, your sister and Pat's sister Fran were with her to the end. Hopefully, that will give you all some solace in the days and weeks to come.
I met Pat 13 years ago at Gino Marcus. We were both taking water aroebics and we quickly became fast friends. Pat was friendly, smart and interesting. We shared careers in education and had many conversations about our chosen professions. She was an accomplished English teacher and Department Head and she shared many stories of her time in the classroom. I'm sure you will hear from many former students who were inspired by her love of literature.
I also found out that Pat grew up on Devonshire Court and had gone to St. Joe's with my older sister Ann. I quickly realized that her sister Fran and I were at St. Anne's elementary at the same time. I grew up just off Ottawa St. and often passed the family home on my route to school. A beautiful neighbourhood.
During this time my sister Ann was battling cancer and Pat was an important support in my life. It was a long 7 year battle and I knew I could talk to Pat who could help ease my burden at that time. We had many conversations while paddling around in the pool. She shared with me the passing of her brother in a terrible house fire. She knew from personal experience the feelings of loss and was very supportive after my sister's passing. She organized the ladies at the pool and provided me with a gift certificate to a local nursery and I purchased a small evergreen that grows in my garden still. That was the kindness of your mother.
When I decided to form a monthly card club at my house, of course, Pat became a member. She was always up on the latest political happenings, what good books to read and offered me financial advise about the benefits of membership in RWTO which I joined because of Pat. She was no slouch in the euchre department either.
Then we discovered our mutual love for U. of Windsor Women's Basketball and she and I along with friends Diana and Kate attended many exciting games over several years car-pooling together and critiquing the play on the court. Pat I found out was a player herself ( all 5 feet one of her ) during her time at the U. and was a huge financial supporter of the team. I was there when she was recognized as a former player at one of the games - an honour I know she was proud of.
My card club gals attended many of the Kidney Foundation events that Pat was a big part of organizing. I was shocked when I saw the huge number of door prizes Pat had assembled by visiting all kinds of merchants and service providers to help with the cause. She truly was community minded. Then there was her commitment to Hotel Dieu Hospital bringing the Eucharist to Catholic patients who requested it. I also found out that Pat was an accomplished pianist and played at many funeral services. I know that she enjoyed the social events provided by the Retired Teachers of Ontario and became a member of their Executive. Pat was a go-getter no doubt about it and will be sorely missed by the groups she supported.
And finally there was the love she had for her family. I was so happy to hear that she attended her grand-daughter's grade 8 graduation recently in Ottawa. She loved them all so much - her two daughters and son-in-law, her sister Fran and beautiful talented granddaughters who she so talked about so proudly. I know she loved her time spent in Ottawa with her family as well as the many accomplishments of her daughter Melissa. May the memories that you shared together help ease the pain of her loss you feel now.
I will miss Pat greatly and the interests we shared and the events we attended together. I feel a great personal loss.
Sincerely, Elaine Astles
