Obituary of Louis John Stokes

STOKES, Louis John,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis John Stokes. Louis was born in 1929 in Dublin, Ireland and passed away, Friday, April 1st with his family by his side in Windsor, ON. Dear son of the late John Stokes and Gabrielle Stokes Connolly (nee Marie). Louis will be missed by Grace, his wife of 57 years, daughter Graciella, sons Colin and Louis Jr.( Kiran), and his adoring grandchildren Logan, Luke, Scarlett and Elise. He will be remembered lovingly by his sisters and brothers- in law and many nieces and nephews in Toronto. In Ireland, Louis shared a very special and close connection to his cousin Michael Egan and his family. Louis graduated from Belvedere College, Dublin, Ireland and emigrated to Canada with his good friend Bert Moore in 1957. He began his working life in Canada for INCO in Sudbury, ON and eventually migrated to Windsor, Ontario, where he settled to pursue other work opportunities.  In 1965, Louis embarked on a rewarding career with Burroughs Wellcome (fine pharmaceuticals). Louis was proud and enthusiastic to represent BW Inc, serving diligently the Southwestern Ontario region as a sales representative until his retirement in 1995.  An avid reader, Louis continued his love of learning into retirement, surrounding himself with interesting individuals at the University of Windsor, where he read History and Political Science. Louis’ innate kindness, generosity and friendly nature was evident throughout his professional and personal life. His sincere belief in his work with BWInc., combined with his Irish charm and “gift of the gab”made everyday a good day at work to Louis and to those who met him. Louis, along with his Grace, lived his life according to his Faith, appreciated his blessings and felt it was his duty to live his life according to the golden rule and “whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers…” Louis will be remembered for his goodness, infectious and cheeky laugh and above all his love of family.  At Louis’ request, a private funeral Mass will be held and he will be laid to rest at Deansgrange Cemetery in Dublin, Ireland at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, 1700 Tecumseh Road East, Windsor, 519-253-7234.
