I will always remember Joe as a kind and gentle man. I knew him as a fellow educator and then later had the privilege of serving on the Board of Maryvale with him. The well-being of clients and their families, as well as staff, were at the forefront and all were treated with dignity and respect. Joe and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. We will always remember the wonderful times we had together in Sydney, Noosa, Hawaii, Tecumseh & Lake Charlevoix. Joe was the most gentle of gentlemen, always interested and interesting. My condolences to Joe's family. I met him first years ago when he gave a brilliant writing workshop to teachers at Walkerville. He was so inspiring. We all mused how lucky his students were to have such a creative teacher. He was the best!

My deepest condolences to the Patterson family. As a longtime childhood friend of James I had the great opportunity to meet Mr. Patterson as a young boy and also have him as my Grade 12 English teacher. The lessons I learned from him in that class are still with me today some 34 years later. He was such an intelligent and witty person but also fun and caring. I have great memories of him and know how tough his loss will be for his family. Take care James and Jennifer- you are in my thoughts Sincerely, Brad Hamelin

He had an impressive career as an educator and it is not surprising as he always showed an avid, caring interest in people and what was going on in their lives - we experienced this attribute many times at our annual Christmas visits. Sorry for your loss Pam and family. Joe was a good friend. We shared time teaching at Kennedy, Herman, and Massey. A funny man with a dry sense of humour. He used to beat me easily on the racquetball ball court, but the tables were reversed on the squash court. We had lots of fun. You will be missed.
