Obituary of Pamela Sydney Garrod
GARROD, Pamela Sydney RPN (Ret'd)
"THE FOOT NURSE"
16 September 1946 - 10 February 2022
I married the love of my life Robert in 2001 and found love, peace and happiness and learned the joys of truly sharing a life with another.
I loved my kids dearly and passionately and was proud to be mom to David and Karen Gerard. I had the privilege to be Grammy Pammy to Tristan, Devon, Chase and Luca. I enjoyed countless hours of chatting, laughing, biking, bubble blowing and planting M&Ms with them. Many soccer and baseball games and guitar recitals I cheered! They gave me much pleasure, love and respect and many, many happy times. Boy did I love all of you!
I am the daughter-in-law of the late Walter and Vera who accepted me as their own. Thank you to dear friends John F. and nursing friends from the IODE class of 1969 - Claudette, Linda, Sharon and Beth (dec 2006) for all your life saving support and love.
I was a nurse for over 50 years and that took me on many satisfying journeys which most recently included 26 years as The Foot Nurse. My involvement with Ronald McDonald House, Street Help, South Windsor Seniors Fun Band, Theatre Windsor, Essex Lions, Lung Association Bike Trek, cheering on the Windsor Express along with biking, hiking, writing, reading and travel to the UK and elsewhere has filled my soul. My most recent goal was to play drums: thanks to teacher Brandon I had a terrific time fulfilling that one.
Albert Pine says "What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal."
Grief never ends but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith. It is the price of love.
For 17 months Pam faced incurable, aggressive myeloma with courage, determination, grace and humour, yet through this time continued to put the needs of others before her own. The world needs more women like Pam.
