Sincere condolences to the Lappan family. Don will be remembered as a statesman, who was one of the founders and strong supporters of the Essex Region Conservation Authority. He had the foresight to understand that managing our natural resources on a watershed or regional basis is key to creating a healthy natural environment and providing flood and erosion protection for residents of Windsor, Essex County and Pelee Island. He had a unique ability to bring people together and enjoy life while achieving legacy initiatives. His selfless leadership is an example to future politicians. Ken Schmidt

Don was always so friendly and kind to us, and our boys. He always let the neighborhood kids use his driveway to ride their skateboards & scooters (it has the best slope!) We will miss him! Danielle, Wally, Jeremy & Carter, from across the street. XO

Ron & I loved visiting Uncle Don and Denise in their Tecumseh home when we travelled from Guelph to visit our daughter & family in Windsor. He was so knowledgeable about politics, past history, and we always admired his dedication to his family & community. A very honourable man, with strong work ethics. Ron loved talking to Don. He will be truly missed. Sending prayers to Denise and family during this very difficult time. Phyllis Lappan

My condolences to The Lappan family on the passing of Don, their family patriarch. Comrade Don was a dear friend and true gentle man. He was a dedicated legionnaire, biggest supporter of the Ladies Auxiliary, and a great mentor to many. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched and enriched. Rest In Peace Comrade.

Don was such a fine man and a true gentleman. Every time we seen him at Tim Hortons we tried our best to sit with him or within hearing distance. Loved to hear his stories and his great sense of humour. I grew up in Tecumseh so Don was well known by all our friends and relatives. A pillar of the community. He will be missed. Our deepest condolences to his wife Denise and all children and their extended families.

As St Claire Beach council member in the late 60's -early 70's I was fortunate enough to start a friendship wit Don and some members of his family. He was tough as nails in the political world but had a kind and generous manner in everything he did. He and Fred Cada were good friends and I was present to see the workings of this dynamic twosome. I share my condolences with the Lappan family.

Don was a supportive friend and a real champion of Tecumseh. He understood and appreciated the role of local government and the power of democracy and he was such an important mentor for me. He encouraged me to look at long term impacts on ordinary people during a time of legislative change that threatened his family business and really instilled profound lessons that continue to motivate me. His experience and activism is long admired and I especially enjoyed spending time with him when we were establishing the Tecumseh Area Historical Society. What a story teller with the sense of humour of someone who knew real hardship and simple pleasures. My deepest sympathy and prayers to his lovely family who share his generous spirit.

On behalf of all the Brother Knights of Fr. Nicholas Point Council 4375 I would like to extend our deepest and most heart felt sympathies to Mrs. Lappan and the families. Bro. Don was a Honorary Life Member of our Council for 64 years. He will be missed by the Knights and the entire Tecumseh Community. He gave of himself to many organizations and volunteered countless hours over the years. He was a true exemplar of what it means to be a Brother Knight and will be missed. We've lost a dear friend. Don was a true champion for our region. He led by example and set the bar high for the rest of us. His love for Tecumseh was evident in everything he did and he did a lot. I was always pleased to spend time with Don, especially during Remembrance Week - he was a proud veteran and never missed a Cenotaph service. Don always had a kind word of advice for other politicians, as he had pretty well seen it all during his many years in municipal politics. Condolences to his family and to the town. Percy Hatfield.
